I'm looking to get a sound as close as possible to Mode Hookers - Breathe or Alex Morph/Rank 1 - A life Less ordinary.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance! (please save "experiment" replies for "smart alec" thread)

ok, just figured it out. Took a Virus Ti "start" patch, transpose by -2 octaves, set distortion to "hard", intensity 100%, boost lows by +5dB, patch volume 127 and off we go. Here's a sample

tell me what ya think! :D Pretty close, no?

Awwwww. I won't say "experiment" to you, because you're a seasoned veteran of the boards.

I just hate it when with one post come in and say.

HOW DO I SOUND LIKE ARMIN.

I'ma find that song then listen to it, and then add suggestions about creating dirty filthy basslines.

Because as we all know, a dirty bassline is a good bassline.

*edit*

Listened to your sample. Sounds hot.

i liked that bassline, the melody was nice to but i guess you just threw that together? :D

i would have said some slight distortion but it seems like if you didnt mean that kind of dirty sound :D

It's already distorted pretty much the max the TI can distort. Anyway, close, but not detuned enough.

my advice: domt go for this sound its even more annoying than the supersaw...since satisfaction every1 uses this sound and...Royal Gigollos,,,ewwwwwwwwwww

thanks for suggestions amigos. actually, I'm only running on 1 osc - as the "- START - " patch is only set to 1. I didn't even bother detuning. Of course, to get closer I'd probably not only have to distort it but also thrown in some compression as well.

As far as the sound being overused - I guess that's the case but at the same time you don't see folks shying away from 303 basslines just because it's been used by just about every soul, your grandfolks included. :)

I'm not looking for it to be a "lead" part in any track - more for a backing bassline. The good ol' forumla says that the lower the frequencies, the more people "feel" it. Good for getting the movement going, imho.

anyway - all great suggestions. thanks for your input lads.

Dirty basslines arent that distorted.

Distortion just adds harmonics. If you are using a saw wave as the basis of your sound, you dont want to distort it too much because its already harmonically rich. If you distort it alot, it will simply sound sibilant and harsh.

Ill post a few of my dirty orrid basslines at some point tommorow as I am fairly tired right now.

But what type of scumed bass sounds are you looking for? Ive built some nasty reece basslines and a couple of creamy angry moog basses. Got one thats a complete glitchfest where tuning and filter cutoff + resonance is being modulated by a wavetable so its never really in tune. Sounds a bit too grimey though...

I agree the sample sounds really "buzzy" and not in a good way has a lot of rumble and what not the stuff you dont want in a really tight bassline...

cool - I'd love to give it a listen. Meanwhile, any suggestions for improving the bite and punch on that bassline to offset distortion being taken out of the picture?
