Didn't really no what to expect, as i had never heard him live or any of his sets.... but he was very impressive. I caught the tail end of Nevio, as i spent most of the beginning of the night mingling out on the patio.

Billy brought a circuit/tribal style, with a nice balance of classic re-works, and new material/remixes. He pitched things up later in his set, bouncing along at 130bpm of chuggy tribal.... and by the end of the night, he had brought out his catalog of clasics, dating back to as early as '98. He did a lot of on the spot re-works, looping samples, and layering various accapellas (i have never seen a dj with a more organized collection of tunes.)

Nice guy, and at one point saw how crazy i was going to one of his tracks, he grabbed a napkin, wrote down the track name, and said 'he you go - enjoy'.

Once again, Carey brings a relatively unknown (to Toronto) - who rocked the house.

Candygirl, and Housebeats (?) - Joe and Yvonne were there.... as well as Fairy Godfather, and Jungle Fever (great name - lol)

Which means, there are only five members of the 6'4'6 crew remaining.

;)

Thanks Jeff...nice to know we made such a lasting impression on your night!

6-4-6 Also includes Jungle Fever and of course, the fairy godfather!

As for the night, to stay positive, let's just say it was my least fav to date. Nevio was so amazing last week, and he just did not bring it with week at all. Would not even have known it was the same guy, except for a few tracks, like "He is".

Billy Carroll was just not my cup of tea. It was so repetitive and bangy...yuk! I actually left at 6 because my head was pounding for the same old base line.

The crowd was not the usual Sonic crowd. I go to Sonic every week to get away from the "village" attitide, not to have it follow me to the great clubs in the city.

Sonic has the most amazing people running it, and the most amazing group of regulars. It's a family, everyone talks to each other, no drama, no bull. This week was not like that, if you talked to someone you did not know, they looked you up and down and walked away.

Let the gay boys come and party, but check the bull at the door..please! I heard some of them talking about the "homophobic" bouncers...boys...with over two years experience at "270" beleive me, these bouncers are the most progresive in the city!

The crowd really filled in after Fashion Cares was nearing it's close...by the looks of what showed up, I would say that fashion doesn't really care all that much.

I can't wait to get my friends back this weekend at DJ Vibe...and my advice to Carey...let Billy Carroll play at Fly as he has done in the past!!!

unknown to the str8 scene. Billy always rocks out the leather ball and circuit events when he spins

Wow, that sounds really interesting. Did he have a lot of special equipment, or was it all done on decks? I want to see more turntablism and less laptop stuff.

all done on CD-J's to the best of my knowledge (i didnt see anything different set up in the booth).

he had cd's that were strictly accapella's in which he would take from the previous song played, and layer it into the following track.... it was pretty cool to watch how effortless it was for him to pull off!

Thats neat. You can hear when other DJs do it, and with trance it doesn't sound good most of the time.

If you can do it with CD-Js, then all the better!
