Go with dell, but go to the closout section. I recently found out about this. Theres a section that sells u refurbished, scratched, and newly returned products. I bought a newly returned, since someone customized it, costing almost $1500, and later decided they didnt want it. Dell knows nobody will want that specific customized computer so they try to get rid of it. I got it for $540 with tax and free shipping. I got it and nothing is wrong, has everything, only thing is, u have 90 days warrantee instead of three yrs. Personaly, who cares, for 500 bucks and the fact its new, u got nothing to worry about. Theres tons of good deals there. Even the customer rep from the NEW PC sector told me I was better of getting it from the outlet than buying it customized NEW. Just my .02

apple is nice but very different and are mostly geared towards media use such as photography and video editing, a couple years ago alot of people that made the switch (pc 2 mac) were not happy because there was alot of things they could not do especially when it came to the internet with all the plug ins and different formats of content macs could not handle. but now alot more things are integrated and more and more people are buying macs.

so i'd say go for it and they give great student discounts so check it out apple.com

I have both - Dell Inspiron and Sony Vaio TX 770 1i inch. I love my Sony. It's such a doll, only 2 lbs and very convinient to travel. Go for Sony, I know it's pricey but it's so worth it.

Lenova/IBM laptops are the best for getting done. Im not sure about multimedia because it wouldnt make any sense to buy a laptop if youre tryna do multimedia on it.
