That was definitely a fun set.
I could have done without the little hip hop mix in the middle of it though, although I didn't mind the tunes played.. lol :p

One thing I've always loved about Atomic Hooligan.. is that he blends in other genre's of music into his set. Love it when he throws down the hip hop and starts scratching! :D

diversity is key IMO.

OR when freq nasty drops "killing in the name of" in the middle of his set. jesus that was ed (in a best possible way).

i dont understand why is there lotsa people who dislike hip hop this much. the underground started taking over lately so there is not that much bling bling bullcrap. with rakim coming out ing stronger that he's ever been, talib kweli, mos def, common, even ing fugees making new album, the future of hip hop (breaks also) looks better than back in the 90's, imo.

hearth and soul of breakbeats is hip-hop and funk, in that exact order. i have to say that there is some cool nu skool but if you put too much blip blip and whatnot in breaks, you're taking away all the good dirtyness and illnes.

progressive breaks my ass. "forward thinking" my ass. but to each his own. give me old school funky any day and your girl, your sister AND your moms will be like "ooooh you so cute and you gots moves".

but, like i said, to each his own.

ev have you heard greg j's set from make it funky some 2-3 months ago??

p.s. its breaks thread so we can talk about anything breaks here. ESPECIALLY if bam is coming again. promoter, breakhead, lightshowgiver, ing crackhead, its godfather of hiphop and breaks goddamit.

o yeah, malente is coming soon too :D

glad you guys are enjoying the freestylers set. :D

i've had it for a while, but a few days ago i gave it a re-listen and it blew me away. i loved the variety and genre-crossovers.
i was enjoying it so much, I just had to share the love. :D

but i agree with cosmic, the mixing was a bit rough between genres, but from what i remember at Freedom, when they mixed in the hiphop that night fairly nicely... i guess this recording was just an off night for them.

I've heard rumours for a while...is that confirmed?!? awesome! Lyrically, Fugees were brilliant...and Lauryn was at her best during that time too, IMHO (re: Zealots).

agreed on 'Push Up' being one of the best tracks in a long time...I'd add AH's mix of ILS - Loving You...sick!

I'm hungry for another breaks night in Orange Room...Freestylers and Icey were definitely highlights of '06 for me.

anyone have a decent Afrika Bambaataa set to share? gotta make my halloween weekend decisions soon...Beyer @ 99 Sudbury...or this one.

I haven't really dug around for one... but when I have looked i haven't found anything.

Expect to hear Old School Hip Hip, Funk, Electro, Breaks, even some house and techno... the one constant being FUNKY. Tonnes of bootlegs that you've never and never will hear again. I went on a little tour with him last year.. the one track that sticks out in my mind was this silly funky as remix of MR. POSTMAN!!

lol, well, this is true.

but i didnt have TOO much to drink :stongue:
plus, when ur in the middle of a HYPE crowd and everyones into it, and the music is this pumpin... mixing is the least of anyones worries ;)

shame on any of you that were not present for Crystal Method @ Guv 10 year, SHAME! Its breaks sacrilege.

It was great times. Pretty good tunes overall... there were a few iffy spots but in total an 8/10 set. CM had amazing yet very odd crowd interaction. They were bouncing off the walls (literally) and at one point Scott Kirkland jumped the stage and started partying with the crowd while Ken Jordan was djing. lol
