the problem is a lot of people think they are synaethestic but they're really not. synaesthesia is a physical change in the senses...the chemical mechanisms going on in ur brain are triggered so you actually experience these senses physically.
it's not merely association, or thought, or fantasizing...but real experience...like you actually see blue...objects become blue or black or whatever, and you actually hear sounds, etc because actual chemical changes are occuring in ur brain |

No actually, that's called hallucinations, and if you get that you should get it checked. ;)
A more accurate way to put it is that you hear the color blue. |

I was just curious as to which colors or sensations synesthetic people associate with certain tracks. I was having a discussion earlier about the subject and wether or not sensations were universal to a degree or completely subjective.
For instance, here's some tracks that evoke some pretty strong synesthetic reactions for me:
Tiesto - Traffic -> dark blue
The Thrillseekers - synesthesia (yes I realise the irony ;) ) -> bright pink
Qursion - Attraction (MK-S remix) -> slightly darker shade of pink
Origene - Sanctuary -> light brown/orange
Jose Amnesia - The Eternal -> medium blue
Astral Projection - Mahadeva (John '00' Fleming remix) -> dark purple
Midway - Amazon -> medium green |
I dunno about colours, but:

P.S
Oh yeah, and as you can see, people dont seem to like it when you mention synaesthesia on these boards. |

memories don't have anything to do with it. It's a blending of senses, so it's usually basic colors, smells, tastes or tactile sensations. |

Wrong.
| quote: | Synaesthetes often experience correspondences between the shades of color, tones of sounds, and intensities of tastes that provoke alternate sensations. For instance, a synaesthete may see a more intense red as the pitch of a sound gets higher, or a smoother surface might make one taste a sweeter taste. These experiences are not metaphorical or merely associations; rather, they are involuntary and are consistent throughout life, although some young synaesthetes seem to lose their ability by or during adulthood. Depressants tend to increase the depth of the perception.
Synaesthesia can even occur when one of the senses no longer functions properly, e.g., a person who can see colors when words are spoken can still see the colors if he becomes blind in later life. This phenomenon is known as "martian colors." The term originated from a case of a synaesthete who was born partially color blind, but saw certain 'alien' colors in his synaesthetic perceptions that he never saw (was incapable of seeing) in the 'real world.'
...
Writer (and synaesthete) Patricia Lynne Duffy remembers the experience: "'One day,' I said to my father, 'I realized that to make an 'R' all I had to do was first write a 'P' and then draw a line down from its loop. And I was so surprised that I could turn a yellow letter into an orange letter just by adding a line.'" |

I think you misunderstood that passage. It's really hard to know what she means unless you've experienced it. If the text is black, you see the letter as black, but you imediately form an association with another color. It's sort of like an extra-sensory perception. On the other hand, if the color was black and she litterally saw it as being blue, then she'd be hallucinating.
P.S. P is green ;) |

I'm surprised there seems to be more people that Have Synaesthesia in here than I thought.
People who have Synastehsia they don't have all the alternate senses.
some people can taste colors, some can smell shapes, and themost common it's to see colors in letters and numbers I think.
I personally, See Colors, shapes and objects with sounds.
Shapes are formed by the style & Type of sounds, the colors are defined by melodies.
The more "undefined" the sounds are, the more interesting they are, beacuse you can see how the sounds change their shapes very detailed.
with undefined, I mean the sound it's not clear, it's always changing in frequency and with effects.
That's why I think Psytrance lets you experience a lot of shapes, and if it's melodic it's even more interesting beacuse you can see a lot of colours. Melodic Euphoric Uplifting Trance in General, You can see a Rain of colors beacuse of the intense melodies, and that in conjuction with the other sounds that create the objects it's beautiful.
Music without melodies seems to be dry, Lacking of colors.
Tastexperience - Highlander (The Main Melody is Green) =) |

What do you mean wrong?
It can't be wrong. It's like an opinion, it's never wrong/right and it's automatic. |
