I think a lot of you should quit your bitchin'. We are one of the few countries in the world that has government funded healthcare. That is a huge HUGE deal. Naturally, if you get a big privelage like that, they are going to give you guidelines to make sure that you aren't going to be abusing the system.
Trying to prevent MORE cancer is a good idea, especially considering that it is the number one cause of death in Canada. It has already been decided and accepted by the state, and by society that anyone under the age of 18 (on a general scale) is not mature enough to make life altering decisions on their own. I believe that there are exceptions to this, however, on the whole, kids younger than 18 are more caught up with their social life and status, and most are not too concerned with much beyond that.
So, to ensure in 10 years we don't have a boom of skin cancer that is wiping out the resources in our hospitals, and killing off hundreds of idiots who tanned the out of themselves, they are trying to limit the availability to the tanorexics now, and hopefully dissuade them from continuing a bad habit.
If you want to live in a country where you get health care practically given to you, then don't whine about how the government is putting restrictions on health hazards. |

thats actually one of the reasons i want to leave. I just had 2 recent experiences with our wonderful socialized medical system and it had me wishing i had the option of a private hospital. If lived near buffalo i would take private insurance in a second.

A) I have an income tax bill that tells me that its NOT practically given to me. We pay almost the highest taxes in the world
B) If using socialized health care is a valid excuse to tell people how to live their lives, then please allow me opt out so i dont have to be parented by the government and do-gooders who think they know better than i do. |

I guess soon that teens will need letters of consent just to set foot outside their house, lol.
On the one hand, we already see fit to restrict access to driving, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. on the basis of age...I'm just not sure this is *that* serious an issue.
If some teen is abusing tanning beds, maybe their parents should smack them...'banning' their use by minors removes responsibility that SHOULD be taken by parents and operators of tanning salons...and punishes teens who use them responsibly (i.e. to get a bit of colour vs. scorching themselves).
I'm inclined to support a ban on kids below 16, 14 or something like that...but I think a 17 yr. old can make an educated decision here. |

Yea, we pay taxes, but not nearly as much as the Americans do, and they don't even get healthcare out of it.
Seriously, I think you need to move to China or something, and then come back here and complain about out government.
And guess what... maybe you are smart enough to make wise decisions, but most of the people on this planet are not. If you hadn't noticed, there are a lot of morons that ruin for the rest of us. |

Our tax bracket rates are higher than the USs! I dont know what you mean by saying they dont pay nearly as much as us and they dont even get health care outta it.
Theyre the ones that dont pay nearly as much as us, esp in the top brackets! So many wealthy Canadian leave for the US bc of our ridiculously high taxation rates and how quickly they kick in!
The combined federal/ontario rate was 46.41% for 2005! Almost 50%! ING RIDDICULOUS!

Seriously, if these ppl who are 16 or what cant figure out what wise decision are, that's their tough luck, bc thats a disgrace. Jesus, as human we have the capacity... but instead we wanna be cradled and the government thinks its their job to step in and decide everything for us!

you think americans pay higher taxes than us?

ok now seriously... they pay far lower taxes whether its income tax, property tax or even sales tax. They can also write off a lot more than we can such as interest payments on mortgages.

At some point you have to assume responsibility of and for yourself.
If the morons cant realise this and chose not to act in a "positive" way for themselves, then its their problem.
The right shouldn't be taken away because some dont realise its harmful to them. Too much and rights are taken away bc of some morons. Its not right.
If they cant figure it out, it should be their tough luck. |
