Serbia & Montenegro centre back Nemanja Vidic is out of the World Cup finals due to a knee injury.
The Manchester United defender, who missed Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Holland through suspension, will now take no part in the Balkan nation's campaign in Germany.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during a training session on Monday, as the Serbo-Montenegrins prepared for Friday's difficult encounter with Argentina in Gelsenkirchen.
Team spokesman Aleksandar Boskovic stated Vidic had damaged left knee ligaments, thus 'putting him out of play for several weeks'.
The loss of Vidic is a blow to Serbia & Montenegro's World Cup hopes, as they need a decent result against Argentina to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

This is a major loss for us.
Nemanja was one of the "Famous Four" in our defense during the World Cup Qualifier. He's pretty much essential for us, and without him it looks much darker than it already is..
As for Nemanja, I feel really bad for him. He was really looking forward to play his very first World Cup-game ever. He apologized to his teammates for taking a red card against Bosnia & Herzegovina all this time, and then, when things like this happens, It makes you feel sad..
The atmosphere in our team seems to be very good, and I think it may be time to prove that now. It's time to stand up for ourselfs and play in honour for Nemanja, I certainly hope they will prove this against Argentina on Friday.
