| I'm terrible too. I chew pens to death, sometimes even pencils, and the rubber thingy where you hold pens at. I also normally bite my nails but i have acrylics on right now so i can't do it lol. Used to smoke almost a pack of 25 a day but recently quit smoking completely and now it's killing me!! I have to drink all the time to stop myself from chewing on stuff or pick up a smoke! arrrghhh :whip: :whip: |

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! The top of pens, pencils (from top to bottom), pen lids, plum pits, peach pits, deflated balloons, the antenna on my cell phone... and the list goes on & on. It's sick, I know, but I honestly can't myself! :toothless
After reading this thread, it's just occured to me that my many failed attempts to quit smoking probably have more to do with my oral fixation that a chemical dependance... Wow, what a revelation! Damn, nothing gets by me! LOL
I once read someplace that babies who are not breast fed long enough (or not at all) often grow up to have some sort of oral fixation... I asked my mom & she tells me she that I was 100% bottle fed -- that might explain it? Anybody else with this problem know if they were nursed or bottle fed?? |

I was breast fed but still have that problem :( And i know my mom didn't stop before it was okay to stop so i'm thinking it stems from something else... i blame it on my being the eldest of 5 kids. |

The first stage a child encounters, the oral stage, is what gives the child the instinct to suck for both physical and emotional nourishment. The suck helps an infant during breastfeeding, the primary way for receive food. Therefore, failure to completely gratify the urges during the oral stage will lead to oral fixations. Such fixations range from nail biting to excessive eating, a sarcastic personality to smoking. |

Minty gum is not cutting it now...
I have reverted to smoking hot cinnamon gum... and I picked up some green tea gum today hoping that will calm my cravings...
What is a girl to do?
Forgot, I better try those toothpick things... |
