need help deciding on a mixer....

hi guys, ok im looking right now at these vestax models:
the VMC-185 (and the XL model) as well as the VMC-004 (and the XL model).
ok now my first question is what advantages do the XL's have over their former models? they seem to be about the same price on most websites however i dont see any differences lol, are they just newer? altered interface or circuitry?
my second question is about the differences between these two product lines. from what i gather bassically the 185 has effects control (snd,rcv) that you can control on each "program" or channel right? and the 004 basically gives you more control on how each "program" or channel is assigned to the cross fader right?
the advantage i see here with the 004 is that you have SOOO much control with everything however for live sets you might want the 185 for effects units and whatnot right?...well i need advice or clarification so thanks guys. |

Well let me be the first to reply.
I went to guitar center in Orange, CT to test out the CDJ-200's and to my suprise they had the VMC-185 as well as the VMC-004 there to play around with.
Coming from a PCV-275, the 185 is basically an updated version of that. Sound is very clear, clean and only a very hint of distortion at high levels. This also applies to the 185. I also LOVE the faders on these models. They weigh in very nice and are extremely smooth and accurate. The main differences I can see between the 185 and the 004 are:
- 185 is a 3 channel mixer, the 004 is a 4 channel.
- Different dimensions
- 185 has FX send/receive on all channels, 004 does not have an FX/send/receive.
Thats about it....
Basically it depends on what you need. If you need a 4 channel mixers without FX send/receive, go with the 004. If you need FX/send/receive and dont need 4 channels, go with the 185. Note that the 185 is about 100 dollars more than the 004.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check out the Stanton M.304. 3 channels, INCREDIBLE FADERS, no bleeding and no distortiion at high levels, FX send/receive and a quilaty build and layout. I did not go there to see the stanton but their new line of SSL equipped mixers ASTONISHED ME. Stanton really stepped up on their game...so much that I am actually purchasing the M304 over the 185.

| thanks a lot for replying! ive taken your opinion into account and ill def check out the new stanton lines...i think i would prolly go more for the 185 because of the effects circuit...however with the 004 couldnt u just dedicate one of your channels to an effects unit and use the channel routing (i guess the cue system on the 004) to work it that way? to be honest price is a big problem for me so a 275 is unfortuantely out of range right now...i dunno heheh i still have time to think about it but thanks for the reply! |

| if you're looking for effects, and like the vmc 004, why not just get the Vmc 004 FX WHT...just a suggestion, but ultimately its up to you, and how much you like the 004 XL |

| yea like i said the problem is mainly money right now and i have a good opportunity in terms of price to get the 004...what are the differnces between the 004 and 004XL? anyone? thanks fro the replies people |
