I think it's all about being creative. The majority of people who go to a show aren't going to all of a sudden turn around and make a fuss going "OMG you already played the B side of this vinyl earlier!"
Most people won't even know what vinyl is what.
It's about experimentation as well. If you can feed in a dub mix of a track and throw in a vocal mix of it later it'll be a way to bring a set together.
It's important to judge the flow of a crowd and how they react to songs. Would be a bit odd to play like 4 tracks by the same artist in a row if they soundd the same, but if they're completely different, who knows what can happen.
Experiment, be creative, and have fun :) |

i think the winner goes to mr dyk for dropping nby countless number of times when that song came out. i have numerous sets where nby was cained harder than a school boy in after school detention.
i think the main point is, who cares, do what u wanna do and have fun.

I don't belive in rules for DJing. Like everyone else said, just have fun, be creative, and enjoy what you're doing. Besides, most clubbers aren't that critical and won't even notice it. It's mostly TA's. Sorry if I offended anyone, but it's true.
In my experience TA's are the picky ones. Most clubbers just want to have a good time. Unfortunately TA's don't make the majority of club goers. If they did, most DJs would be catering to TA's only.
There's been times when I dropped the same song, different remix in a set. I heard Sasha do the same thing last year at Avalon. He dropped Moby - Lift Me Up... not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES in a row! It was all different remixes and his mix lasted over 15 minutes. Mauro Picotto dropped Like This, Like That, 3 times too. But people didn't noticed cuz they were different remixes.

| i agree with ASFSE. theres no rules. you can have 5 remixes of a track in your mix if it sounds good and makes you happy. you decide for yourself what sounds good. |

i often drop muliple tracks by the same producer or remixer in a set. I find that in many cases the tracks flow better when they are made or remixed by the same person.
another one of my favorites is to drop 2 different remixes of the same track on top of each other. i like to juggle back and forth and people who can ID tracks, usually love hearing the different elements from each remix being brought together....
like it was said before. its YOUR set, throw whatever you want however you want. i dont think there is a single person out there who will say "ew, i dont like this DJ he just dropped 2 gabriel and dresden remixes in the same set." i only use G&D as an example. |

How about you grow some balls? If you "don't mean to be rude" then ing don't, just hold your comment to your own damn self or construct it in a positive way. There was a way to contribute a response to my question without being a dick, you just chose to take the other route. How do I expect to expand musically? By asking questions. I am sorry if you feel like they are dumb. I might ask you the same question: How do you expect to expand musically by holding in all of your worries, concerns and questions? Or do you know everything already?
Obviously there aren't "rules," but there are standards people go by to determine the efficacy of a set. If you go to the DJ booth forum there is a thread discussing mixing versus track selection, was it stupid for the person who asked that question to ask? It seems to me like Electronica is about progression, creativity, acceptance and learning. If you don't have room for that in your heart and mind, why does that mean I am the one who should be excluded from the conversation? Seems to me like you are the one who is above this community...
I'm over it...I will ask someone else next time.

As for your question, I wondered the same thing a while ago, and I came to the conclusion that it would be fine.
If it goes well, and the listeners like it then its good.
I didn't think about it this way, but if you were listening to a set, and he played 2 remix's of a track, would it make you not enjoy the set? you'd prob just notice it, if that and get into the music again. |

I love Steve Angello. I play Steve Angello all the time. I guess it doesn't count since I'm a bedroom DJ, but hey!
Most won't notice, and even if they did, they don't care.
