i think within every major family of music there are certain genres that have developed a more commercialized sound than others. it's pretty common across the board no matter what kind of music you're talking about : punk/rock, rap/hip-hop or electronic. what i think happens is the scene is on fire with explosive new sounds-->big business steps in to repackage and resell that sound for as long as people will keep rebuying it-->the once explosive creative momentum of the scene gets crushed under the enormous pressure to buy into the cookie cutting frenzy-->only a few true artists/producers remain on the fringe out there trying to push the envelope for their scene. the only difference is edm junkies tend to bitch louder about it than other people :tongue3
and as far as the 90% out there bashing edm, they're just intimidated by music designed to make them actually dance and move :stongue: it's true though |

| my dos centavos...this is a trance forum and the main club for the Westcoast TA's seems to be Spundae. So by saying the darkside...'joining the darkside'...is to enjoy house/prog and go to Avalon. Darkside crew would be Simon, Julia, Tigo, Bas, Clovis, Gypsygirl....the prog/house headz. I dont know where that started tho. |

I agree, but I see the divide is much stronger with EDM. Other genres don't have the elitist hieracrchy that EDM does. I feel that the hieracrchy stems from the particular types of people that like a certain type of EDM for example: "kiddies" and "P.L.U.R." are associated with fluffy upbeat trance so, the "veterans" that like minimal whatever hear fluffy trance and say, "OMG, that is for kiddies and ravers".
I want to type more but I need to go to sleep. |
