Yes I am. Not constantly, but "personal use" means drinking.

You get off work, you have a drink. Fire fighters do not go to work drunk. Until you can PROVE otherwise, don't make unwarranted assumptions about other people.

Why are firefighters so concerned with being able to drink on the job?

LOL, my thoughts exactly.

While I'm guessing they weren't dumb enough to actually drink on the job, I think it's *ridiculous* that a Fire Hall doubled as a community bar

Firefighters walking off the job is *so* responsible to their community too. I suppose the follow up story will be how someone died in a fire or experienced a huge property loss becuase these jackasses weren't at work?

I dunno Jay...is that really a productive way of standing up for your "rights"?

I'm gonna go back to my drinking under the age of 19 example. So when a 17 year old walks into a liquor store, should he be able to buy alcohol since they can't PROVE he's gonna go and drink it? He could be buying it for his uncle, after all. Smartass.

Meanwhile in the news....

Tradgedy in Eastern Canada

Gander Newfoundland (Canadian Press) Canada's Worst Air Disaster occoured earlier today when a Cesna 152 a small 2 seater plane, crashed into a cemetery early this morning in central Newfoundland.

Newfoundland Search & Rescue have recovered 142 bodies so far, and expect the number to climb as digging continues into the evening.

I was merely saying that you were slanting every firefigher as a drunk bastard who can't help but drink on the job.

You example is pretty off-target as well. Someone who is 17 is still a minor, this means that they are not their own legal guardian and are not totally responsible for their actions in all circumstances. On the other hand, firefighters are not minors. They must take responsibilty for their actions. For instance, if they show up to work drunk, they get fired.

You just can't have a Newfie thread without a Newfie joke, and I could not believe it took 3 pages to finally put one here.

then how is their walking off the job of any real consequence?

lol

oooooooh, big protest! In a town of 700, I don't think there a whole lot of community work as there would be here (?)

meh...this is a non-story.

However, Mayor Robert Elliott says past problems at the hall prompted the town council to take a firm position.

"The fire department has been told [on] many, many occasions, you can't sell beer. On many occasions they've never listened," Elliott said.

"This is the only solution we saw. Take it out, [and] then you can't sell what's not there."

curious to know about the "past problems" before I get all sympathetic for what appears to be a silly situation anyway...a fire hall doubling as a bar...um, ok?

Rofls, thanks for peeking in! Here's another:

quote:
A gas station in Halifax was trying to increase it's sales. So the owner put up a sign saying "Free Sex With Fill-Up."

Soon a Newfie pulls in, fills his tank, and then asks for his free sex.

The gas attendent tells him pick to a number from 1 to 10 if he guesses correctly, he will get his free sex.

The Newfie says, "8, b'y"

The gas attendent says, "You were close, sir, but the number was 7. Sorry, no sex this time."

A week later, the same Newfie, along with his buddy, pulls in for a fill up. Again he asks for his free sex and again the gas attendent gives him the same story and asks him to guess the correct number.

The Newfie says, "4, b'y"

The gas attendent says, "Sorry,it was 3. You were close, but no free sex this time."

As they were driving away, the Newfie says to his buddy, "I think that game is rigged and he doesn't really give away free sex."

The buddy replies,"No, b'y, it ain't rigged. My wife won twice last week."

Newfie jokes galore!
