| yea it comes with practice, it's 2nd nature to me now, i don't even think about it, if one starts to slip i immediatley know which one to quickly touch up with out really thinking. |

practice is what it takes. and get rid of that split cue business :) after lots of practice it just becomes second nature, kinda like training your brain to distinquish the two records without you really know that you're doing it, after a while it just gets easier (well it did for me).
|
yeah, i know dean. the prob being that my sound system is a bit ordinary and i live next door to scum, meaning most of my mixing has been headphone mixing since day 1. i practice the whole single ear thing when i do play outside the house tho ;)

Nail on the head. You're just crap. Give it up and spare yourself (or rather everyone else listening) the agony.
Unless you like the sound of boos? In that case, Wattyl on. |
im too awesome to get boos. in fact, some critics down here (and i aint talking about candy ravers, im talking bout hardcore experts that make or break music genres with a mere comment) have even started calling me the next mortyman. now, im not sure i deserve THAT kind of praise, i doubt im as wonderful as our messiah international superstar, but im still pretty ing awesome.

hey pkc im not havin a go you but all aspiring djs in general... if you cant tell which record is goin faster - you shouldn't be getting any gigs... yet. too many carnts not takin pride in their djing.
|
i hear what youre saying jizz, but if you have them matched up all perfect-like before you mix then you dont need to know ;) and when im well-practiced im pretty a-ok :) thats actually why i asked the question, coz i wondered if there were other a-ok people in here who got gigs but still couldnt really tell ;) i certainly wouldnt be playing out if i thought i was embarrassing myself! :D

I havent played all that much, probably due to the fact that when I do it sounds terrible. I am too embarrassed for others to hear. How long have you been playing for PKC? |
had tables for 2.5 years. i think the main prob is that when mixing in i just listen to the live cue so i can make good EQ decisions. does that make a difference? or should it still be obvious which way they slip?
and philbs, if you can tell so easily why are your mixes so ordinary? :p
ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D |

| one way to tell which record is slipping out if you have trouble distinguishing between the two tracks is to hum one of them in your head, it actually works really well as long as you can hum in time;) |

hehe, well its all a matter of perspective. who needs more than a 60-70 second mix in uplifting trance? im happy with that. no, its not perfect every single time, but its good enough. honest! ;)

i mean, i do tolerable mixes (i think) & get the odd no-ones-there-gig. split cue is ok, but hardly perfect. if and when they start to slip mid-mix tho im playing red & black on the roulette table.
anyone else crap too?
