I listened to this last night at work, and I have to say that this is probably my favorite set from you thus far, although I wish it ended with "The Orange Room," "Sedna" just felt out of place (perhaps I'm just beyond tired of it though), and I really thought the set sounded like it was over with "Orange Room."

The progression was solid as a rock though - Blakes "Spybar Anthem" definitely sounds outstanding in context (I've only heard it on it's own so far), and Rubin's new production is definitely an interesting turn from the previous items I've heard/played of his.

All in all, nice work, and in my opinion, significantly more impressive than the first Audiology...

i agree 100%.

i have to admit when i first saw the tracklist for this, my first thought was "oh man, Sedna? really?" i'm just sooo unbelievably tired of that track because even though it's a great song and i absolutely LOVE 16 Bit Lolitas, it's just gotten so played out by everyone. i agree with Rob that the set felt like it should have ended with The Orange Room.

but wow, Seneca! this is a stellar mix... by far my favorite one you've ever released. track selection was absolutely fantastic. there was not one track that i didn't enjoy (with the exception of Sedna of course), and i hadn't heard a lot of the tracks before which was nice, because i always like being introduced to tunes that other people are digging.

the progression/programming of the set is rock solid. it flowed very nicely and kept me groovin' the whole time. there weren't any points where i got bored or felt like the set was weak or anything. like i said, the set starts off way funkier and harder than most of your previous sets you've released. towards the end it gets a little more melodic and more chilled out than the first half, but it works! personally i think i'd find it hard to program a set that way, but you did a great job. mixing sounded really smooth and it sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on Ableton mixing.

great to see tracks from MWTAs featured in this mix, and i enjoyed both of them thoroughly! Rubin's track is definitely way different than his older stuff that i'm familiar with, but i like it a lot and it sounds great in the context of this set. Blake's track makes me giggle (i love Dane Cook) and also sounds great in the context of this set.

bottom line: i enjoyed this set so much that i'm listening to it for a 2nd time today.

I honestly hadn't heard 'Sedna' until last week when it became availible on Beatport. I don't know maybe shame on me for not hearing the track before it was availible but it's new to me that's why I used it :)

I really try to find unique stuff that other people are either afraid to use, don't know about it or just don't play.

I all about supporting the 'little' peeps as long as they are good at what they do! Thanks for the in-depth review again and look out for part 3 soon.

good mix sen! i like it...i also like that dane cook remix...ill throw i my 2 cents...i think it would be cool if you used sidechain compression with the synth he makes with his voice...try it and i think it will add alot to the song! but very good work ...both of you!

why would you use side-chaining for the synth?
i thought normally it's for the bass-line so it doesn't drown out the bassdrum???
anyway i don't know much about production but please enlighten me.

mostly used on basslines...ive seen some examples used on vocals and synth and they turned out awesome...u can sidechain anything...it might sound better and add depth...might sound like , trial and error..either way creative track.

and sen, that was directed towards him...i didnt make that clear tho. =) see you soon!

Haha. I don't think I've met you Seneca, but when I read your commment, this is what I pictured: A guy who comes across some record at Gramaphone, listens to it horrified, then carefully puts the sleeve back into the stacks and tiptoes away because he's afraid of it. Moments later Seneca bravely picks it out, listens to it, and purchases it boldly.

That said, I listened to this mix a few days ago at work and really liked it. I'll have to give it another listen on good monitors soon, though and write more detailed comments.

that part of the vocal is sidechained believe it or not, just not drastically. the version on senecas cd is far from finished.

my 2 cents...

I got tired of hearing the very pronounced type of sidechaining, oh, about 2 yrs ago. I have trouble listening to songs that use it heavily. Yours is not one of them Blake. ;p

Really enjoyed it. Smooth with a funky edge (I guess that'd make it blunt?). Loved the beginning with those first two. Worked great & got me hooked straight away.

...but I'll still have to go with the consensus on Sedna.:p

Thanks for sharing.

Hey,

Sounds pretty good so far, some tough, edgy stuff in the middle there.

Do you have a cue?
