Marketing. Hundreds of thousands of dollars, and an overabundance of producers creating simple styles of music with simple catchy hooks.
Demography: teenagers; their disposable income and propensity for purchasing music makes or breaks a crappy pop music track.
If I smoke some green and watch MTV, I can clearly see the insane amounts of marketing bull and propaganda that is going into turning these kids into CD buying drones.
Also, the entire reason that our society today is so sex-centralized is because of this; teenagers have the fastest hormones and the most cash to spend frivolously, and so we targeted them with sex, and it has developed into the trends in society that we see today.
Not necessarily a bad thing. :haha: |

Agreed. I bought the Royksopp album a few weeks back and it's great. Very well produced, moddy at timees, Beakbeatish and upbeat at other times, and terrific lyrics to boot.

I reckon it also becomes popular cause of everyone trying to be cool.
DJs included. They will play it or say they like it cause some other person did. When in reality they dont find it that hot.
Sad to say sometimes I'll buy a tune cause I hear some people talk about it and I'll think awesome. Then snap out of it and think, this tune is actually pretty toss. |

I maintain that even when I was ing TRIPPING, it never made me do anything I would not already have done were I not in the right frame of mind. I wouldnt have killed anyone. I wouldnt have pissed my pants. I was coherant and logical. The logic was just internal and made absolutely no fecking sense to anyone that was not also tripping at the exact same time as me, on the exact same amount as I was on. And I have yet to adequately explain to anyone why mushrooms make me think intensely of circles, circular spyrographic patterns and circular chi (the circle of laughter - look out for it the next time you eat shroomburgers).
However. Drugs really dont make you do things you wouldnt otherwise do. And they dont make you suddenly love things you hate. However, they can make you ease up and enjoy something you wouldnt otherwise enjoy because of inhibition. This is why you see so many people at happy hardcore gigs looking like cyrax from Mortal Kombat 3.
Hell, I've wigged out whilst trying to explain to random people that ferry corsten's discography resembles a vintage cheese menu...I maintain I still did not like Ferry Corsten even when my face was going weird although if 'Out of the Blue' suddenly came on whilst I was on another plane of hilarity, I would probably piss myself laughing whilst trying not to think of 'Out of the Poo.' Either way I would probably enjoy the song regardless since everyone elses faces are going weird too - we can all look weird together.

Ferry hgasnt really ever done anything amazing to me either, except for system f - solstice & moonman - don't be afraid.
