About the Satellite records thread being locked

So i saw the satellite records thread http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=353042 was locked and i really don't understand why it got locked. Satellite records is a dance music record shop in Atlanta, GA. Brett came on here to let everyone know what new releases they had out this week and that some of their prices had dropped.

How is this any different then a promoter coming on here to promote a dance music event? I mean its not like he is bumping up his own threads or anything, he is posting once lettting people in ATLANTA know of the new releases that the store got this week. He's not trying to get anyone to sign up for anyone, he's just making it a bit easier for people in Atlanta who might be looking for certain tunes that are coming out this week.

Brett, the owner of Satellite records is a great guy dedicated to the Atlanta dance music scene, he owns a record label, blueprint recordings. He produces with one of the most groundbreaking breaks producers out there, habersham and phil k.. He is promoting events (damian lazurus last month and phil k this month). This guy is doing a lot for atlanta and people want to have him banned for making a post about the new tunes that have come into the ONLY atlanta record store this week and coup is locking the thread because of this? It was posted in the Atlanta section and this has A LOT to do with Atlanta dance music! Brett contributes so much to the atlanta scene and he can't make a post about new tunes that came into the store this week?

And looking back over he isn't even posting this once a week.

He posted this last one on 6/19.

Going back he posted a different one on 5/20 and then before that one on 5/5.

I could understand frustration if it was being posted every other day but he is posting a new one once every 3-4 weeks. Is it really that huge of a deal to want to ban a huge contributor to the atlanta dance music scene over?

I agree with the previous comment.

he literally isnt contributing anything to the community, ta that is. and ta isnt an advertisment forum.... i dunno if u have noticed but there is a "for sale" part of the forums, if he posted it there, i wouldnt have a problem... and it may be that im the onlyone that has a problem with it. now im glad that mods just took action against this sort of crap.... its about time they take the first step.

as for advertisment space.. i dunno if u knew this but tranceaddict sells advertisment space.. if he is in need to let the poeple know in the local forums, he can contact swamper and put a banner up.

No one doubts how much Brett contributes to the Atlanta scene. The issue is TA's policy of not allowing advertising. I agreed to him posting a few threads and see how it goes. It didn't work out because Brett never posts outside his record threads and the threads themselves looking like advertisement spam.

As far as I know, the banner code isn't forum specific. Meaning his banners will be seen all over TA. I think TA 2.0 solves that though.

that was meant as contributing in general to everything that goes on that supports dance music in atlanta, not just TA.

Brett is more then just a buisnes person!

I Agree to your above statement about buying a record or seeing a show, but as a brett being a multiple buisness owner (satellite records and blueprint recordings), a dj, a producing schedule, running his own website (lunar magazine) and a father and husband sometimes people don't have enough time to contribute in other ways on TA but they are still doing a lot for everything as a whole.

He really doesn't DJ,produce music or run lunar to make money, he does it for the love of the music as does anyone who goes to a show or buys a record. Its really a fine line i guess. Knowing brett personally and knowing that everything he does isn't just about making money its tough to see him get beat down in a way for it here. He has busted his ass to save the only record store in Atlanta, had he not bought the store it would of closed down awhile ago. He struggled to make changes and i now his post about new tunes is nothing more then taking his customer service a step forward and letting people know of new tunes that have arrived.

Ok, I have to weight in about this. I stopped in Satelite Records yesterday to pick up a few things that I read on that post. I for one like to know what new stuff is available. Yes, Brett is advertising but he is also posting a threat that I want to know about (regardless if no one else wants to know about it!). I am a memeber of this community and one post a month is no too much crap to sift through. Hell how much random do we have to sort through that Mario posts on a daily or weekly basis?!? [You know I love ya dude!]

I also have a problem with Coup coming in here and closing the thread. Stick to your side of the pond or your duties in the Miami forum (if those are still your duties). Keep your ass out of our neck of the woods.

So, maybe we need to discuss this and put it to a vote as a community. If the majority decided that this is no big deal then I think that Brent should be allowed to post once a week and a service to the community, then let him continue. If not then so be it and that is the price we pay for posting in a civil community!

the thing is.... in ta we have 2 sections

a new releases section.... and a for sale section i dont see the need to clutter the local forums with it... not to mention they have a website
