Raptors fans...

Toronto traded Matt Bonner, Eric Williams and our 2009 2nd round pick to San Antonio for Rasho Nesterovic and cash.

Centre problem addressed somewhat...plus it doesn't impact Toronto's salary cap room this summer (about 12-14 million to spend).

nice!

Sorry to see Bonner go...but not a bad deal at all, especially considering what any other centre would have cost on the free agent market.

Bosh, Charlie V and Nesterovic up front is pretty solid, IMHO...now they should focus on getting a veteran point guard to start alongside MoPete.

damn collangelo is good...

finding someone to take eric williams contract i think is the biggest part of that deal...

the fact that we get a decent centre who we know can average around 8 and 6 a night in either a starting or backup role is an added bonus.

damn.....

I bet everyone can just SMELL that NBA championship trophy now!!

^^^ lol

perhaps not...but if we get a decent PG, there's no excuse not to make the playoffs next year.

Williams is probably thrilled to go to a contender too. The fact we've still got ALL that cap room is what's especially great with this deal. Williams was mostly on the bench...Bonner (while I like him), is easily replaceable (all he really did was shoot), and a 2nd rounder in 2009 is no big deal.

so I look at as Toronto got a competent starting centre for Bonner...not bad at all. Nesterovic isn't going to save the Raps...but he's at least a true centre...something Toronto hasn't really had before. It will be interesting to see what he can do with the increase in minutes he'll no doubt see here.

Nesterovic is unproven, and a 2nd round pick is too high.

unproven?

12 points and 8 rebounds a game his last year in minny...

he will fit well into what the raptors are doing.

they do not need a star centre...they need a competant compliment to what they already have.

i think nesterovic fits this roll quite well.

as well, we can't neglect the fact that toronto is probably going to draft another big man in either aldrige or bargnanni....

i may be going out on a limb here...but i'd say that's a pretty decent and skilled front court.

Good times are coming in Raptor land. When I heard about this trade I was impressed in the fact that we still have the same cap space as before, have the extra roster spot, and got a decent centre. Can't wait to see what the next move will be. I'm starting to hope they draft Adam Morrison.
MarkT
^^^ exactly...it's not just about the acquisition...it's the circumstances under which it was made.

as for giving up a 2nd round pick...who cares...granted the new GM isn't an idiot, but a quick scan of the Raps' previous 2nd round picks...absolute nobodies, several of whom aren't even in the league anymore.

http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/draft_history.html

The Raps still have tons of cash to pick up a veteran PG and big man via free agency/trade if they want...freed up a roster spot (they also waived C Robert Whaley who came over in the Hoffa deal today, I think).

I'd pass on Morrison though...Aldridge would be my first choice...No one seems to talk about him moving over to centre from power forward though...I dunno why...? He's a rebound and block guy too (which is exactly what the Raps need).

http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/sco...s_aldridge.html

Bargnani...I dunno...talented, but do we need another score-first forward if we've got Bosh, Charlie V and Joey Graham? The guy does not rebound or block much either.
TO guy
Do you think this changes Toronto's draft choices this year? Is Bargnani still tops?

EDIT: I have to start reading posts .... I'd like to see Morrison are maybe Aldridge.

collangelo is already starting to prove his worth.....

give this team three years, and i think they will be a legit contender.
