We as in who exactly? The only one i heard of recently was a community in northern Markham. It was not the entire city, just a small section.
Sorry but arguing against water bans just does not make any sense. Why not limit a scarce resource? I understand that Ontario has a lot of underground wells and an abundance of lakes in general, but not all of them have the required infrastructure to support a large or any communities. Plus, with the number of sub-divisions cropping up in the ourskirts of cities, it is going to take time to install the required piping.
All water bans are temporary, and not perminant. |

In case any of you weren't aware, we are running out of fresh water resources at an alarming rate. I am glad they are monitoring the water use.
Sorry, but it is more important for a city to get water than to have your car washed, or your lawn watered.

drink past a certain hour - This seems a little silly to me.
drink in public - This is good... I wouldn't like drunks in the public parks and . Remember, public is occupied by little children as well as adults, and not all drunk adults are responsible.
wear perfume to many workplaces - this is fair. If there is a known allergy to perfumes, people should have the courtesy not to wear the stinky crap.
own a pitbull - Meh... I am on the fence with that one.
water your lawn - Good!
hold a large music festival (unless its funded by a special interest) - There is no law against this. It is just strictly monitored, which makes it difficult. People can work around it.
drink or smoke legally as an adult until 19 (even though 18 is legally considered to be adult) - I agree this one doesn't make much sense. If you are considered old enough to vote and be a part of making a decision for an entire country, how can you possibly not be considered old enough to decide if you can drink or not?
As for the things we're allowed to do:
marry someone of the same sex - Good.
have sex with 14 year olds - Within a five year age difference!
women can be topless in public (anywhere)- Damn right!
walk around with marijuana with no fear of significant punishment - This is not true.
bring your dog to work - That is plain B.S. but it isn't a law. |

May i remind you that in most European countries it is perfectly legal to drink in public and children are no worse off for it. Let's not be overdramatic here and coddle the kids to death! |

your observation, as Orko says, blurs laws, common practices and company policies though.
further, you *always* seem to ignore the HARM PRINCIPLE (which I've repeatedly brought up in many other threads) that guides/governs many (most?) laws and freedoms.
Our freedoms are personal ones that don't specifically harm others...gay marriage, topless women and personal pot use all fall under the realm of the individual...even sex with a 14 yr old is arguably not a societal danger.
public smoking, 'uncontrollable' dogs, limitless public drinking, etc. all have some form of public harm as potential (though perhaps infrequent) consequences.
by harm, I don't mean MORAL harm (re: adult having sex with 14 yr old)...because morality is NOT the domain of legislators, IMHO...I mean specific (usually physical) harm.
agree with it or not...I think that's the major principle behind our laws and freedoms. |

I totally agree with that.
Coddle our kids?! WTF?! Kids aren't even safe going to the park alone in most places, and that is without the danger of drunken idiots wandering around. |

Like i said, it's completely legal in most of Europe and you don't see European kids being any worse for the wear. Unless of course, you're saying Europe is a lot safer than Canada or that Canadians are more irresponsible when drunk than Europeans? |
