WASHINGTON, June 22 — Under a secret Bush administration program initiated weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, counterterrorism officials have gained access to financial records from a vast international database and examined banking transactions involving thousands of Americans and others in the United States, according to government and industry officials.
The program is limited, government officials say, to tracing transactions of people suspected of having ties to Al Qaeda by reviewing records from the nerve center of the global banking industry, a Belgian cooperative that routes about $6 trillion daily between banks, brokerages, stock exchanges and other institutions. The records mostly involve wire transfers and other methods of moving money overseas and into and out of the United States. Most routine financial transactions confined to this country are not in the database. |

| Between the NSA looking at the phone calls and now the bank data and everything else you'd expect them to have produced results with it by now. I mean this program in particular has been going on since 2001 and as far as we know has produced zero results. |

Hmmm, it is interesting how when confronted with an issue, someone as interesting as yourself feels such an undying desire to challenge the manhood of others with differing views.
It's okay, sweetie, when certain self-projections like this occur with yourself. If for some reason you are having some personal issues with your own sexual identity, please understand I have absolutely no problem with it at all. It certainly may not be my own cup of tea, but as a homegrown Democrat and liberal I do very well accepting others who have differing viewpoints on sexual orientation.
Now with that said, am I to gather that given your statement from yet another Powerline quote (http://powerlineblog.com/archives/014499.php), you continue to have no problem with this infringement on our liberties and privacy, all in the name of fighting the "war on terra"?
And incidentally, do you by chance happen to read anything else outside the silly wingnut blogs like Powerline? I love a good liberal blog as much as the next Lefty, but my goodness I do try to limit my reading of those and do my best to balance it out with normal newspapers from time to time. |
