Baltic Bloc | "Parts Unknown" | Summer 2006 Promo
View this Thread in Original format
Aquadyne
We recorded this at the end of May in anticipation of CD release party at Narcisse. Unfortunately, the CD's were not printed in time for the show so very few folks got CDs. But here it is for download. We were both very happy with the way "Parts Unknown" turned out and so it will probably be the last promo for quite a bit. Let us know what you think.

Hey, we've all been there before.

If anyone understands, it's me ;)

Stoked to be coming back down this weekend bro - Meet up early for some drinkies?
Aquadyne
Certainly, my friend.

finally got some time

here we go!

first 5 seconds had me leaning the wrong way then a nice little whoosh and i'm back in it... oooo here it comes again!
good vocal track nice and easy for the beginning, definitely a lounge feel to it
good mix into number 2, basslines mash really well.
great flow so far, track 3 almost fits... a little too down for my tastes... i just don't see it fitting it here - too much like track 1... and she's just talking, she's not even singing.
excited about this next one, a little drum pattern is always good.
good mix, glad to get out of the last song, and it's a bit more funky now - good progress.
mix came about quick, but the drum pattern matched up nice tho - and another good step up from the previous track, getting my energy flowing more now!
ok i see where this is heading, a bit of a tribal feel still with the drum patterns - i really like the flow from earlier lounge-house to now a funky drum pattern/progressive house. and it's really doing a number on my energy rising - great stuff.
ohh my god the bassline on this tune is sick - The Beginning - i think.
great mix, and a good choice - an increase in high-hats.
now it's staight up progressive trance, i see you guys followed the myra route and used a bit more vocal tracks in this set. good increase in bass and i'm definitely ready to dance by now - LOL!
huge build-up through the rest of the set.

Overall solid solid SOLID mixing, great track selection and progression - except for track 3 really didn't seem to fit for me.
Really nice thing for me was the build up of energy throughout the set really was setting me up for dancing and I think in a 2 hour plus environment you guys would perform really well - as I'm sure you have before I just have yet to experience it.

thanks for a really detailed review dennis, glad you liked it. we were definitely aiming for a more tribal sound with this one so i'm glad that carried through in our set. like i said, we think this is our best work so far by a good stride - so we're glad that it's getting such positive feedback all around. makes the effort a lot more satisfying.

edit: in regards to the trance aspect - a much more melodic sound is something that we have been swinging back to for a bit of time now - maybe a month or two. it probably seeped into the set on a subconscious level. i suppose thats why lately i've been downloading trance sets and having a good time listening to this as opposed to house sets of which i was getting a little bit weary.

Thanks so much for the review Denys and everyone else who posted in the earlier thread (sorry I ruined it with my insanity (and if you think that post was bad, that was the high point of my double fisting misadventure, which I'll buy anyone a shot tomorrow who promises to forget that whole episode)). Great to get some feedback and hear a little of what people like & don't like so much.

The mix into "Easy" was a bit of an experiment on my part to try to change it up a bit and it was mixed in well but had to drop out the Lara track when the snare part was going to kick in and it made it seem a little out of left field, but I still love that track on its own ever since first hearing Seneca drop it @ Vision. Very happy to hear that some of the melodic stuff is going over, as I get so enTRANCED in that kind of sound I usually forget to bring up the pace later on until Yuris begins yelling that he needs to get set up for some nonstop uplifting unicorn 140 BPM mixing-on-the-edge specials ;)

Hopefully some nice looking copies will be available of this @ Narcisse on July 1st. Thanks again everyone and all you other MWTA DJs keep your fantastic mixes coming!

P.S. I love you all & EDM!
