Australia's Perceived Image...

this was quoted from someone in the Australian forums, and i think its 100% correct.

i would like to know what peoples opinions are of Australia and the way they conduct themselves on the pitch, and why we have this perceived image of 'rough' play.

They need to change the image the media over there is paintint of them, its influencing the referee's decisions. I was reading in the paper a few days ago that in a split second decision that a study found %90 of decisions are effected by media flooding an opinion or statement. The referee's in all our games have made a lot of flawed decisions clearly effected by pre-conceptions. Australia are considered rough and dirty players and all the teams we have played have claimed this leading up to our matches as a tactic to get the referee's judgments clowded.

Free's for and Against have been stupid. Australia need to stand up to that and someone needs to realise and point out that Australia play harder at the ball than most teams and have more desperation than most teams. However they are sportsmanlike in behaviour. Then theres the BIG one, WE DONT TAKE STUPID DIVES! Australians very rarely waste time pretending to be hurt.

I think the semi finals are achievable if the media portrayel over in europe changes after our amazing efforts and endeavour last night even though the public mentality is against us.

BUT FCK YEAH BRING ON ITALY! :D

Australia vs. Italy is going to be like watching the Olympic diving competition.

Your team injured 3 dutch guys in a single FRIENDLY match. No wonder you're facing consequences now.

australia, who cares!
Guus Hiddink is a genius and Russia gets that genius after the world cup. so by my thoughts - the sooner you exit this tournament the better for me and the motherland.

and what, this justifies any style of play? open your other eye and watch a replay of the dutch FRIENDLY the week before the world cup and tell me australia werent an overly aggressive & 'hacking' kinda team. if they went into the actual tournament with a reputation and then play like that the week before the world cup then they have only themselves to blame.

all players dive. its that simple. its a disgrace to the sport & FIFA should be focusing on it more than anything else imo, but it still happens in every team. imo the south americans are the worst followed by europe. id agree with your "very rarely" comment however it doesnt mean it doesnt happen. a cheater/actor is still a cheater even if they cheat less ;)

i do think its crap if the media is too harsh and it influences referees. however i reckon bringing poor referees to the competition is also largely to blame. theyre a disgrace in more games than not thus far. i dont remember ever seeing it this bad before. but i agree, australia have been arse fvcked by the ref more than most.

hopefully with less games now, the quality referees will adjudicate most of them? :)

my perceived image of Australia is still whatever I saw on Crocadile Dundee.

jonze324.

The facts are these...

ConCacaf have 3 1/2 spot for the world cup. 2 too many imo for such a weak confederation. Whens the last time a team from the region has got past the 2nd round?

Player for player the americans arent anywhere near the standard of Australia, and the leagues and teams they play in. How america is ranked no.4 in the world ensures fifas ranking have no credibility.
