HOly crap, THank you guys soo much for your info!!!

Ill be mixing electronic music (just say no to hip hop);)
going the cdj route.

It sounds like pio cdj200's will do me just fine.

I dont really have a set budget, like if im blown away by something and its worth it, ill spend some extra moeny to get it. That said $1500 sounds about right.

as for how many channels and what kind of mixer, thats where im lost. the pio djm 400 keeps popping up in this forum. Do i want a mixer with effects? i dunno im gonna read up on that
:toothless

thank you guys SOOOOOO much!!

alright well cdj200's should be perfect for starting, in fact people actually upgrade from tables or other cdj's to 200 sometimes because their relatively new, tried and true, and loaded with everything an EDM dj would want (so ie no scratching since we're not talkin about hip hop here). in terms of a mixer...the djm400 is GREAT...because everyone knows its great quality wise and durability wise but its also loaded with features such as the effects and in-loop sampling circuit. now this may be a little much to start with (a fellow TA nutsan would tell you its a good idea to master your equipment first before getting more stuff) so...i mean its great if you KNOW at this point your going to want effects but absolutely not necessary especially since your just starting out.
now another thing, the 400 only has 2 channels and no fx-loop (for obvious reasons) so if your looking to hook up your computer to do live sets eventually and more complicated stuff like using samplers, drum machines, effects processors etc etc...your going to want something with more than 2 channels. if you like the idea of the 400's effects what you can do is- i recommend the vestax VMC-180 or PCV-275....they have a built in fx loop which is great cuz once you master all the 101 and you feel the need for effects you just buy your peice and hook it right into the effects loop and its all set. on the other hand, you also have an extra channel to connect a computer or something.
now this is not the only way to go about effects units and the like there are other ways of hooking up your stuff even if your stuck with a 2 channel mixer (not necessarily a bad thing, like i said your starting out so you have loads to learn even before thinking about effects). another peice i HIGHLY recommend that im picking up very soon is the vestax VMC-004 mixer..its 4 channels, highly recommended by people, great to start out or even mid-level...very intuitive and fun cue system and its quality. so i dont know...actually i know what its like to start out and be very confused about so much equipment and whatnot so just give me a pm, or contact me if you like or have questions you might not want to ask here.

my way to look at dj equipment...

you only get what you pay for..

so if you but reasonably priced quipment, you are going to get reasonable equipment, just dont go for cheap equipment.:happy2:

ok so i decided on two Pio cdj 200's and for a mixer i picked up a Numark dxm06, should i have gone for a three channel mixer :conf:

S FUN!!!!:toothless:

2 channel mixer is fine for starting out. But eventually you might want to experiment a little with loops and other kinds of tricky mixing and you'll long for a 3-channel with a third CDJ. :p

I'd suggest something similar to what I have -- fairly good gear without having to spend an arm or a leg:

2x cdj200 $700
1x Numark DXM06 mixer: $250
1x Sony MDR-7506: $100

That's right around a grand, USD. Not too bad. And if you really search you can find that stuff for cheaper.

edit: just saw your last message. i think you'll be fine on a 2-chan for a while :p

That's pretty much the exact same setup I have though you'll probably have different headphones and monitors. But I have 2 cdj 200's and a dxm06. You WON'T be disappointed I can tell you that much. Don't listen to all the anti-numark chatter you hear sometimes; my dxm06 has held up fine since February, no ups. The built-in effects are snazzy on it, the kill switches are handy, the crossfader is smooth, the upfaders are decent, and the sound is rich.

And the 200's, nothing more needs to be said other than they own so hard it hurts sometimes.
Spirit5
2x Pioneer CDJ 200: $ 350 - $399 a piece ($700 - $800 total)
Pioneer DJM 400: $499 - $550
Sony MDR-7506 Headphones: $99

price: about $1,350 + tax. That should do, and maybe then get some monitors like some KRK RP5 ($150 a piece), RP6 ($200 a piece) or RP8($250 a piece). But you don't need those right away. If you have a computer, you can use your computer speakers in the meantime.

First of all I would have to say that the cdj200s are a great choise but if you are looking to spend 1500 another option would be to get 2 brand new techs mk2 (loved and trusted for 30years) A 4 channel vestax mixer and serato by rane.
You will have a literally endless supply of tunes on your computer but you will also have the ability to buy the ocassional really good record. 2 channels for your lines 2 channels for your vinyl and the best of both worlds ...

ok so heres my complete setup.

decks: 2x Pioneer cdj 200's ($1055 CAD)
Mixer: 1x Numark dxm06 ($320 CAD)
phones: 1x Sony MDR-7505's ($150 CAD)

Monitors: 2x JBL E30's ($320 CAD)
Receiver: 1x Onkyo TX-SR503 ($350 CAD)

For a grand total of $2195.00 CAD

IT SOUNDS ING GREAT!!!

Only one problem, when i bought it all they also had a djm500 used going for $500 (CAD). Should i go and trade in my numark and scoope that deal while its there?? Should i be worried about buying used???
