Hey

Ive been trying to recreate this effect , but sadly cant get the exact result. Its getting kinda frustrating to say the least :whip:
Ive tried for example Fab Filter Volcano but i sadly didnt manage to get the same effect, also tried some cutoff filter / freq things. Could someone please give some tips to get this rather "simple" effect ? Thanks :D

Thanks for the reply! Could you maybe point me to a vst that support this kinda effect?

Cakewalk's Rapture can do things like this. You can program your own LFOs or use the preset ones.

I'll try to make it using Rapture and post a clip - it will give me something to do for the time being.

EDIT: Ok, I just made it. Here is the sample:

White Noise Oscillation - Rapture.mp3

I made this with Rapture, but the process should be the same. I essentially added a high pass and low pass filter with a full on/off gate on the volume. The high pass and low pass filters used a sine wave LFO - beginning at the trough.

Here is the first screen showing the filters I used (look in the DSP section). I only showed the LFO section for the HP filter (cutoff 1) as the LFO filter on the LP filter is identical.

Here is a screenshot showing the global elements I added to the sound. This shows the full volume gate and the stereo delay I added to give it that echoing effect:

I didn't have to add another element, but it gave it a little more texture and a more full sound. On the 2nd element, everything is identical with the exception of the symphonic filter I added to it and I messed with the tuning a little (not that tuning made a huge impact on a white noise sound anyway ;) ):

Hopefully this helps you. If you have Rapture by chance, I can send you the program I made to create this sound.

Take care!

i think it's a LFO that afects the filter cutoff freq, and ofcourse a bit of noise and reso as palm said
Limit
ok so here is how it goes.....

take some white noise and modulate it with a BP filter at high reseanece. Have a LFO modulate the BP filter cutoff with a square wave(so it goes in and out very quicly in set intervals). Then use another LFO, using a sine wave to modulate the the BP filter cutoff, so it filters the noise in and out slowely.

Then you a HP filter to take out some of the bottom end and raise up some res.

here is what you get

I used a Waldorf Microwave XT for this.

Thanks a lot for the nice & good replys! Im gonna work it out now :)

Haha. Dune. Loser. Or am I as much of a loser for knowing who it is?

It's a noise OSC with a standard Band-Pass filter with the resonance turned up.

Vanguard could do this quite easily and it's a cheap VSTi.

I just have to say I went to the URL and was impressed with the Nexus advertisement they had at the site. It's peaked my interest

Carry on :D

Regarding the bandpass filter recommendations, I guess there are more than one way to skin a cat. I didn't use the bandpass filter method, but I feel I came out with a decent representation. I guess the end result is all that matters. It seems like I might have 'over-engineered' it when it could have been extremely simple. Oh well. ;)
