I had the iKey and honestly, sound quality sucks. I tried it for a month and returned it. It wasn't worth it IMO.
You're better off buying a minidisc recorder or wait til iKey 2 comes out.
But IMO, get a looooooooongggg RCA Cable and you're set. |

| my current connection which consists of a 10 ft long RCA cable connected to a ground loop isolator then connected to an adaptor that goes from RCA to line-in in the back of the computer....sucks ass. the sound quality sucks and I havent been able to record like this on my new computer. It worked fine on my old one tho. |

| Why are you using a ground loop isolator? You might just need a better soundcard if you're having issues. |

| Get a proper DI box or u might need two... You have it at each end and then viola balanced signal. Balanced signal = Longer cables no problems |

| Good news for me, means that simple power filter i have been considering is worth it. |

| when i try recording, the bass sounds really distorted. ive checked the levels and nothing is clipping. i'll try some different cables, but would that have to do with anything? |

| Cables do not normally make that much of a difference especialy if it is not for studio situations but the longer the cable is being run the more problems a crap cable will cause. Avoid adaptors at all costs. |

Guys just to set the record straight - you really should not ever try to use an unbalanced signal over 15m (40 odd foot). It does not matter if you use a shielded coax, a standard cheap dual phono lead, wet string or warm damp noodles as anything over this distance will atenuate really badly and be very prone to RFI, EMI etc.
If you use a active DI box then all you have to do is get a short phono lead and a long balanced cable then at the other end bridge the cold and the earth - YOU DO NOT NEED A DI BOX AT BOTH ENDS.and this will run as long as a balanced signal will go (100m + with decent cable)
If it is a passive DI box you will not get interferance(as above) but the signal will atenuate over disctance.
Also YOU CAN RECORD ON AN IPOD:) .
Just follow the link:

It is not supported for all ipods but will work on quite a few, without you having to buy more hardware.
SVG method - it sounds like you have some earthing issues going on. A power conditioner might not sort these issues as it sounds like it's happening between the mixer computer and not the original power source. |

Radio shack, or even home depot. It's just RG-6 quad shield.
