You've seriously got to be kidding me. I'm fully aware of lots of horrible our country does, but your country of South Korea would be communist right now if it weren't for us. Then you could be living under the reign of your neighbor to the north.
Do I even need to mention World War II, a war we didn't start, and helping to defeat the Nazis in Europe? Hell, if Hitler hadn't gotten ambitious and started the war, the nuclear bomb wouldn't have been a project approached with such enthusiasm. It was us and the USSR worried about him getting the technology that started this mess and made us the world superpowers for obtaining, and because we ended the war. Also, how about the creation of the League of Nations, which eventually became the basis for the UN after World War I?
For all the bitching people do about the US, and I fully support a lot of the criticism, some of you guys seem to be lacking a bit of a historical perspective.
Lastly, for you to say it's safer, I also think is a mistake. When a country holds the amount of power that we do, other smaller fights don't occur as frequently because people who might normally be more ambitious fear what will happen if they are.
I personally wouldn't choose to destroy any nations, but there's a few governments I wouldn't mind dismantling. |

I wouldn't dismantle it, but I'd replace the people running it at the moment.
It worked fine the way it was for nearly 200 years, then people started ing it up. We've got a pseudo-dictator as a President now, who strips out sections of the Constitution that he wants, eliminating the checks and balances created to ensure this doesn't happen. They classify everything, even from the other branches of government that are supposed to provide oversight. They strip citizens of civil liberties, all in the name of protection.
To be honest, if 9/11 had never happened, causing half of this country to vote out of fear, I don't think a lot of this stuff would be allowed to fly. I don't think Bush would have been re-elected if we weren't at war, and even if he was, Congress wouldn't be as divided, but since we're at war, they've been throwing out this black and white "You're either with us or against us" line, and no one in the government wants to be against us, so not enough people stand up. |

| I do know for a fact that Americans are strongly disliked in South Korea. That's because there's American soldiers stationed there, and from what I've read their behavior has been terrible, esp. with respect to Korean girls and ordinary citizens. |

LOL - Blame the English, they started it. :p
I already addressed this topic in one of the World Cup threads. Neither side is wrong in the situation, it's just what happens when 2 related sports develop different rules in a time when communication wasn't quite as easy as it is now - http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...2&pagenumber=16
BTW, I saw the original poster had about 70 posts, so I thought he was more of a regular. Then I checked his other posts. All I'm going to say is  |

Hardly, I'm saying he's a selfish opportunist.
Edit: While I don't believe that 9/11 was orchestrated by the US like a lot of conspiracy theorists, it sure as hell worked to Bush's advantage, and I understand how some could come to that conclusion. I try not to be THAT cynical. There's no way he could get away with all of this if it hadn't happened, though. |
