"This weekend’s Cherry Beach is on Canada Day monday. See you then!
We pulled together our first Promise Cherry Beach soundsystem exactly 5 years ago this Canada Day with the help of Livin’ Large, and we thought we would do it one weekend only and move on. That weekend was pretty lively in Toronto, a combination Pride weekend and Canada Day and long weekend all rolled into one. We suggested that people bring frisbees and nice dogs and sweaters and a picnic and all and what we got surprised us. Firedancers and fireworks and a minor lowrider bicycle show and stiltwalkers all popped out of the woods. As well as a big bunch of friends dancing in the woods after a day of lots of sun. Nice.
In honour of that Canada Day monday, we host a special event each year on the same day and it’s that time this year. The dj lineup has been carefully thought out, come out and enjoy.
3.00 Violet - dub reggae
4.30 Dan Driscoll - trip hop
6.00 Dalia - hip hop, soul, soca + house
7.00 Vitamins For You - live
8.00 Samba Elegua – live 20 piece Samba drum squad
8.30 Jelo - thundering house
9.30 Matt C - house
10.30 Lee Osborne - techno + house
visuals by Suedath
lights, lasers by Mike and Scott
3 to 11pm monday - east end of the park, in from the water
Directions to Cherry Beach: Take Lakeshore Blvd east of downtown just past Parliament. Turn south down Cherry Street all the way to the end, then go east into the parking lot on your left. At the furthest east of the lot walk along the bike path and turn left up the trail into the woods... you'll hear music. If you end up at the lake, you're going the wrong way.
Biking to Cherry Beach is easy along the paths beside the lake, a new bus route from Union Station goes down there too.
Things to think about: Please bring only what you plan to take back out with you - leave no trace. Pack something warm (it gets cool after dark by the lake) and something to sit on and also something to keep sun off your head. Drink lots of water. Bring something to share.
And remember while down at the beach to take care of your friends, your neighbours, and what's going on around you. It's what makes the afternoons happen smoothly.
If the weather turns grey the day of, call 416 323 0361 for the contingency plan." |
