Nice one Wim, I looked around at the online store section a bit and I come up with this funny thing :D
"Welcome to the Icone HiQ Soundbanks section. Here you will find presets for your favourite sequencer. Apart from the 3XOSC, TS404 and Wasp soundbanks (which are only useable with FL Studio 5 or higher), you can use the soundbanks for any sequencer that can host the specified VST Instrument"
hehe, the funny thing is that there are only patches for the 3xosc, ts404 and wasp :P Besides that they sound nice ;) what about some new banks for for example v-station huh? :) |

hehe. I wonder if we will ever get the real story on that guy. He seemed to of "spammed" a lot of the other production forums as well. At least he gave out a lot of usable free samples.
Is there a way for us americans to purchase Icone's stuff? The paypal link is in german. Just wondering, because a lot of sample CD's and soundsets I see for sale on the internet, are priced with foreign currency. |

So read and learn what? That it's ok to post SPAM on the board? PLease show me where it says its ok to post advertisements of your products here. I'm on way too many music forums to know that spam is never tolerated by the moderators because it ruins a forum. Not trying to tell you anything you don't already know, but as a reminder, this forum is for sharing ideas on production techniques and such, not to advertise your personal products. Any mods want to chime in here or is this tolerated here? If it is then fine, I have a trance drum loop collection and various pieces of music gear I'd like to advertise in here in my next post!
If it is not tollerated then you can't play favorites with some and not others even if you like a certain members products. |
"Forum Spam is the posting of unneeded and abusive messages on a forum. Most forums have anti-spam rules. Some forums try to prevent spam by using "Spam Allowed" sections, but those are flawed, for spam is only spam when not allowed. Anything called, "Spam" but allowed by rules is, of course, not spam."

Now let's see here...

[*]I am bloody handsome! ;)
Icones first post doesn't even fit in under the category of spam since it's something very relevant to this forum (you know, production...samples...lots of people tend to use them, maybe you should have a go and try for yourself ;))
It's an ad, shure. But the ammount of money he takes for it makes it okay in my eyes. After all he's probably put in lots of hours into thoose CDs. It's def. worth a bit of apreciation. especially when he's sharing it with us and not just sitting there on it all by himself like some other tiesto guy ^^ |

I'd call that a shameless promotion ad and not spam :p |

I'm actually suprised this forum hasn't already been over-run by members trying to sell their sample CD's etc etc.. already! There's umpteen gazillion sample CD's out there these days. It seems advertising in here is tolerated from reading most of the posts. Aditionally, the fact that no website admin has even stepped in to this thread to give clarification on this tells a lot. So beit. But posting advertisements and performing business dealings in a public forum in most music sites is a big NO NO for good reason. It's using the site as a personal marketing tool. So does this mean it's ok for all the softsynth programmers to come in here and post a few helpful posts and then start advertising their synths all over the board too? Where will you draw the line? Also, usually when a member is well respected he/she knows it's bad forum etiquette to do this kind of thing to promote his/her product.
I am not a new member on this site, though I have not been a regular poster for a long time. I'm on a bunch of other audio forums as well and really only came here recently to help out and maybe learn a few new tricks/tips from producers here. It's a great resource to be able to share ideas with producers working in the same genre. However, it's very annoying and unprofessional in my opinion to bring advert/biz in here. Perhaps a forum just for selling all other stuff not DJ related is in order?
For the record,
I have nothing against Icone or his product. It could be a great product. That wasn't the issue. |

senvenseas: True, I put that there becasue I planned some more banks, but that got backtracked again and again... :)
Not sure about the Paypal thingy though, might be because it chose to go for Dutch language all of a sudden as some kind of 'service' hehe. Will revert it back to English to avoid mistakes.
Vizay: voila, c'est ça - nothing wrong with shameless selfpromotion, is there? Where would anyone ever post his music if this was forbidden ;)
Besides, it's not like I roam every possible trance music board, or repost the message every week...
tecnolover: I'm sure you can post your suggestions to Swamper for all of these things.
If there would ever be a general sales forum (like on many other forums), that would be the 1st place I had ever posted this... Since there isn't anything like it, or anything remotely appropriate for this, I posted it here as I have always done.
Then again, if more and more real advertising companies who don't post anything here and are not music-related in any way, would ever notice this, it would probably unmistakably go wrong...
On the other hand, I think MANY producers would be more than happy to for example find links to, or news about their favourite synths or manufacturers in one place. I wouldn't necessarily see some sort of 'grouping' of these things as a real problem to the forum. |

icone: I wasn't really bashing you in anyway actually, just realized it might look like it but it wasn't my intention :)
tecnolover: Your point is good and maybe it's time for the mods to make a statement on this just to make it clear so everyone knows what's allowed and not when it comes to advertisement here.
What bothers me a little is that people think everything comes for free. People have become so spoiled due to piracy so they can't even understand why someone wants payment for such a thing as a sample CD. But that's a whole nother discussion :p |

Vizay: wasn't offended or anything buddy ;)
Fact is, a real 'advertisement' sub-board would only attract bad things I'm afraid... It is a welcome idea, though it has disadvantages that could have consequences for the whole board. |
