Full review:
Came in about 12:20, and Lawrence was off to a great start. He had a couple of really wicked songs that I wish I knew the name of. Then he went into his psy phase, which I didn't like too much. Don't get me wrong, normally I absolutely love Psy Trance and it was very nice to hear it in the KH (I remember at one point I was like, "Psy? In KH? WTF is going on???"), but I dunno, there was just something off about the Psy tunes that he played. It still had me moving, but didn't have me going crazy like his non-Psy tues. Regardless, by the end of his set he went back to the style he was playing when he came on, and I was VERY happy to hear it. Enjoyed his set thoroughly.
P.S. His set made me wish that Oakie would come back to his Goa/Psy roots.
Markus was great as always. He just doesn't ever dissapoint me, and this is my 3rd time seeing him, and it's the 3rd time that his set consistently stands from the rest of the DJs that play alongside him. He doesn't quite hold that special place in my heart like Dumonde does, but he's quickly gaining ground. I actually enjoyed that remix of Air For Life that he played, which is strange cause I usually strongly dislike that track; it was a much more techier version, and that's probably why I could stomach it this time. It was awesome to hear Helsinki Scorchin' in a club, although I distinctly remember thinking that he should have lowered the levels a bit - the melody was just too piercing for my ears. My Loving Arms was ing aweeesome. Been waiting to hear that track in a club, and I was pissed that I missed Tiesto purely because of that track, but Markus came through for me that night. Made my day. And clsing with Traffic, wow. I so did not expect that to be played, but it was awesome still. I know people would have bitched and complained if it was the original version because it's Tiesto and all (:rolleyes: ), but Markus played an awesome remix of it, and the crowd ate it up (as did I).
Second Sun, what can I say. Also my 3rd time seeing them, and everytime they performed they play that Crush song towards the second half of their set, so I was thoroughly surprised when they played it towards the second half of their set. They actually started off really nice. The first few tracks were really Housey, and it worked well for them. Then they settled back into their minimalistic live-PA Trance, and it got boring.
Gielen. Honestly, I gave him a shot. After the bore-fest that he was presented with after SS left, I expected him to pick up the pace nicely, but no such luck. I must have waited for something interesting in his set to happen until like 5:20am, at which point I gave up and went home. It was the same stuff over and over and over again - waaay too many builds and breakdowns - he'll literally leave the bassline going for like 15 seconds, and then cut it and go back into the same breakdown over and over. I dunno what the "people in the know" call it, but basically it's when he'll have a synth on loop playing, and he'll bring it in briefly, and the repeat the bringing in and out with increased pace. After hearing that same pattern for like 5 songs in a row, I was just standing there rolling my eyes, and he was acting like he was inventing the wheel.
Overall, I still had an awesome time thaks to Lawrence and Schulz, but I could have left at 4, and not missed out on anything.
P.S. Sasha, apologies for missing your girl in the Orange Room. Totally slipped my mind. In my defence, I wouldn't have forgotten if you were there, so I blame you. :p |

M2J's 2 da point review:
CL: his set was up and down for me, some great points, some a bit boring. but the psy/goa parts were amazing.
MS: one of the best trance sets i've heard in a loooooong time. In all honesty I wasn't expecting much... I had give up on markus nearly a year back based on 4-5 GDJB episodes in a row that just blew, but man, he totally redeemed himself last night.
SS: they were not bad, but I gotta say, the vocals were totally off. I'm no expert in singing, but I think the singer really needs to practice/get some training.
JG: started off rough, but built up to a terrific end. at the start he kept making his live CDJ break down and continually interrupting the beat for dancing. luckly as the set went on he did that far less often.
It was great seeing everyone again. And a huge thanks to Tyler for an amazing night; its always a pleasure partying with you bro. |

TRIP: RETURN to the GUV/KH (since Labour of Love 2004)
Time of Return: 1:24am
Length of Drive: left Saturday at 1pm, got stuck on the QEW in Toronto for 2 hours, got to the border close to 5pm...then finally got back at 1am after dropping ppl off in North Jersey...
Rating of Trip: Overall good, some setbacks and always a bit of drama whenever i go up to Toronto :p but that's another story
too tired to write a *full* review of the the entire trip. Most likely I'll leave that to Robdawg (if he hasn't already written it already) Suffice to say, GUV/KH has NEVER disappointed me, no matter who's there. Like tatgirl said, it was enough to have that lineup that night...Christopher Lawrence wilded out with his set and got me st0mping even though my ankle was hurting... Markus was def ON POINT...much better here than he had been at Spirit last week...Second Sun was ENERGETIC, n I love them no matter wut -- esp. Antoine, who I had the chance to talk to when I ran into him at the bar later that night...very friendly guy :) and Johan threw down some siiiick classics ("Home" was practicaly the FIRST trance song that I was familiar with AFTER being converted by Oakenfold's Tranceport Album)
awesome seeing tatgirl, illnada and a few others whose names/handles i cant remember now...and *finally* i got to meet the famous JAMIE!!! awesome, and thanks for the beads! :tongue2
weird moments of the night:
- some crunked/drugged out FAT guy falling into me while I was at the front...I stumbled, Drew pulled me aside as the guy toppled to the floor...then watching Security haul him away on a wheelchair after several attempts
- yeah, asian guy trying to sell a pill VERY openly
the *bad* part of the night, however, came when I *dropped* my phone during Johan's set -- didn't find it, even with the help of a few well-meaning souls. :( a tiny SONY ERICSSON w700i (gold)
someone probably picked it up...oh wells :( but its not EVEN the fone that I care about at this point...its the PICTURES and VIDEOS that I took!!! so no pictures!!:whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: too bad...cuz i had gotten some realy great videos and also pictures of the TOTAs...im really really really disappointed but oh well...:(

I will say this as I've been saying it all these times...GUV and the Toronto scene def provides a vibe that I think NYC has seriously lost...the last few parties ive been to haven't exactly been the best. u TOTAs are definitely know how to have a great time! thanks again for being so welcoming to us. <3
and of course much love to my NYTAS that made the trip up...it was the first time to GUV for all of them except for me and Drew, im just so glad you guys had a KICKASS time.

I was so happy to meet everyone that I haven't seen in so long! It was a great event to feel welcomed back to the scene.
I came in at about 1:30 am so I caught the end of CL's set. MS kicked my ass as usual; I <3 his remixes and his set was no less (Flight 643 was AWESOME). When Second Sun came on, they had this funky beat going and it was great, then it went weird and I almost fell asleep on those benches behind the VIP bar (lol next to Danny boy and I was pointing out how I was going to pull a Danny! :p :haha: )
However, I had to wait to hear Mr. Gielen and although he started weird (I guess to transition the mood from Second Sun) it evolved into a few classic trance ch00ns but mainly progressive stuff.
It was a great night, I was so thrilled to see Nada there unexpectedly (my lil sis--hope you have a great time in Europe, you luck biotch!!!! :D) and Josh, thanks for your kind hospitality; I had a great time hanging with all of you after the party, just chilling. I'm afraid that it was so cool that it will become my routine (whether you welcome me or not :p)
Met a few new faces including those TAs from NY. Nice people.

Wow. It sounds like Markus played the EXACT same set as he did in NYC!!! :crazy: :crazy: (well aparently lyss thought he was better, but jeez, the tracklisting from these posts have it almost identical!)
