I'm a mobile DJ, and I preform live quite alot...... mostly outdoors..... I use a 2x500W amp (8 ohms), and a pair of 700W 15" speakers (8 ohms)...... beleive me, you don't need more than that if you want to blow their heads off!!!!!

get a 2x500W (8 ohms) amp, and matching 15" speakers..... or if you got a little more $$$, get 600W........ :):):):):):):):)

i was just about to post this same thread but i saw this... currently my dj crew just uses about a 300w stereo receiver amp (from a home stereo system) and we have 2 150w speakers but they are basically blown. its cheap stuff.. but i want some for myself.. we haven't spun outdoors but i need enough power to fill up a big house or even bars.. cos sometimes we play at a bar that doesnt' have a pa system.. but i guess it would be good to have that 500w amp and 300w speakers.. what are some good brands and some prices? and im looking to spend as little as possible cos im about to empty my wallet on a new mixer..

Damn... 2x500 is to much and you dont need 8 ohm! i have a 500 watt amp and 2 12" that goes in 4ohm! u dont need 2x500 with 15" because you cant play that high that the amps work full power. If you do the speakers will burn! Just a waste of money..
I have that setup when i play and that is for 50-75 peeps..

i guess you guys havent heard of bridging? easy way to get extra powah :)
DJTJ
Yeah, but if you bridge then you only get mono. And you can't bridge into anything less than 8 ohms usually.

Best thing to do, (if you can afford it) is to get two amps; one at about 500 per side at 4 ohms for the bass and one at about 300 per side for the mids and highs. You then want an active crossover between the mixer and the amps to separate the frequencies.

Speaker-wise, you'll want perhaps 4x15" drivers for the bass, either paired or in separate cabs. You'll want to run 2 drivers off each channel, in parallel. drivers should be rated at 300W 8 ohm impedance each, ideally.

For the mids/highs you want 2x12" and 2x8" at 150W 8 ohm each. Again, these should be in parallel.

Put all this together and you should have a pretty decent system for an outdoor party for up to 100 people, probably.

so....
can anyone recomend some brands (hopefully w/ cheap prices)

Well here in Sweden we have MDS... it's kinda low budget but still really good, their bass played highest db in the world in a db drag race!
For the best 12" it's $200..
