Never seen obsession so healthy. Great Work Mr Bateman & Strangis. Got there around 11 and stayed in the main room all night. JulesPLees whooah u rawwked it! Steve May never seases to impress me with the quality sound, love how you reved it up at the end. Strangis droped some wikked emotional tracks. Sorry to Scottie and Ben Evans as my friends all piked on me at 3am, so im pissed off I missed your sets.

Give me more obsessions anyday ftw:)

Unless you are Stephen King who rights the ending to his books first, the end result is a strange place to start. However I need to tell you from the beginning how great this night was. Events come and go but there are only a handful that you will look back on talk about for ages, this my friends was one of those nights.

Part of the reason for this was the meticulous planning that had gone into the event. From the early promotion, flyers, Zen theme and fantastic local lineup had set it apart from a lot of more recent nights. It was the lineup that made me want to go in the first place, consisting of, of course, Steve Strangis and also, Scott Bateman, Paulie C, Lister Cooray, Jules PLees, Steve May and Ben Evans in the main room. Virginia Le, Chris Meehan and Hercules were also to play but in the side room.

I have always thought that room was a great nightclub, really well laid out and just the right size for most club events. But I have to say that I have not seen it so well presented as it was for Obsession. It had an Asian theme, with heaps of decorations, big screens behind the DJ playing all sorts of Asian things and most importantly the DJ booth where it should be, back on the little stage at the front of the room.

Making a point of getting there early to see InProgress… I was not disappointed. Playing slightly harder than I had heard from them previously, it was their usual quality. They also finished with a great remix of a Coldplay track I had not heard before and cannot id.

Next up was Jules PLees. The birthday boy was all smiles and he banged out tune after tune. Thoroughly enjoying himself, he showed some great skills also that I hadn’t seen from him before. G&D – Tracking Treasure Down made an appearance during his set.

Next up was Steve May. May is a great producer and just as good a DJ. Think the track he most enjoyed playing was his own Blend Forty-Three :P At this point, I ventured into the side room to catch Virginia Le. She is one of my favourite Melbourne DJs. Her sound is so fresh and a great mixer to boot.

It was now Steve Strangis’ turn to play. As soon as he started the place and the vibe lifted. It’s no wonder that he plays at the main stage of the bigger Melbourne parties. His mixing and track selection was flawless. Highlights were a wicked remix of P Diddy – Lets Get Up and Lets Get Ill which really went of and also Carte Blanche.

Scott Bateman was up next and played a more tech trance set. Again, it is so good to see the new up and comers that Melbourne is producing, it makes it harder for the internationals to impress. Wish I could id the last track but for the moment my mind has left me.

After Scott, I was time for Ben Evans to close the main room. He started with a breaky remix of Tears From The Moon but then picked up the pace. Another great mixer, Ben is quickly getting a big and well deserved reputation.
Oh, I can’t believe that I have forgotten to mention the crowd! It was a great and very friendly with lots of different ages and smiles all around.

Now it was the end and time for me to leave, as I mentioned at the beginning this was a great night and one of the best I have had for ages. But it deserved to be and it was well planned out and just as well executed. Top stuff guys!
