Most disappointing players and coaches of the WC

My list will be short.
Rooney - All that media attention I think got to him and screwed things up for England, pretty bad I may add... didn't do except playing football as if it was rugby. I've seen him do tons better than that at Man Utd, maybe he's not that good or maybe he just wasn't fit to play, regardless, pretty disappointing.
Ronaldinho - Should I say anything at all?... Didn't do anything for his team, absolutely nothing. He simply lacked that leadership to guide his team to victory, it is weird considering he finished the season with Barcelona on fire, but he failed to get it done on football's biggest and most prestigious competition, the WC. For those of you thinking he was better than Zidane when he was at his prime... look at the WC 98 and look at this one too.
Sheva - He entered the WC as one of the top 3 strikers, he left the tourney pretty much with nothing, missed many chances and seriously lacked that finishing touch.
There are others who might make this list as well, just to name a few we have Raul, Pekerman, Aragones, Nedved, Lampard and let's not forget our dear van Basten... I will never know what happened to RVN but Holland losing without him playing, that's unforgivable. |

Clearly Ronaldinho was the biggest disappointment.
I agree Lampard was very poor, and have to add Stankovic. |

Pekerman and Van Basten get my vote for worst coaches..
Pekerman robbed Argentina of a world cup. Germany owe their win over Argentina to him.
Van Basten turned Holland into a poor Italy-clone.. ugly, defensive football instead of the beautiful flowing football we're used to seeing from them. |

I rate Pekerman as very good, but that substitution of Riquelme for Cambiasso was suicidal. |

Oh yes theres quite a few
Ronaldinho (looked uninterested and lazy)
Lampard (missed a lot of great chances for england)
Del Piero (i think his days are over..)
Shevchenko (expected the captain to lift ukraines status and game play)
Henry (Not to impressed although his last match was decent)
The ones who deserve credit:
Ribery (Great midfield runs and support for strikers)
Zidane (a veteran showing his support for his team, plays extremley well when it all counts and an essential player to france)
Terry (imo deserves player of england team, heart of defence)
Cannavaro (same as Terry)
Kaka (imo works hard for brazil team unlike Ronaldinho)
Lahm (outstanding runs from the back to help team)
Zambrotta (same as Lahm)
i know there are more but i cbf writing them all + these are all the big names that impacted on the teams performances. |

i agree with you about rooney. everytime he lost possession he looked like he was about to take the ball and run back to england crying. i didnt like england using him as a single striker with no one to play off of and the barrage of long balls played to him were ridiculous.
i dont know about throwing nedved's name in there. the opening game he looked brilliant but i think the loss of koller left him and the czechs with limited options. |

He made a lot more mistakes than just that..
If Argentina'd had a better a coach they'd've been unstoppable. |

Jesus, how could I forget Sven? The single biggest disaster ever to happen to English football. Apart from that plane crash in Munich back in '58. |
