I talk to a bunch of people who know a lot about music too because most of my friends are DJs or have been heavily involved in electronic music for years. the majority of people out there partying to electronic music don't know enough about it to identify the top producers on the scene, though.

but i think with producers it would be different because many of these people dont even know what the word producer means... yes it is sad that tiesto and all the other trance djs win these votes all the time but i just dont think that they should get all the credit over the producers.

i want to see some recognition for these people because they deserve it. its the same thing with the majority of the people who vote for the top 100 dj's as well. most of them dont know anything either. thats the way it will always be but there are those people who do know just because the majority dont know anything does not mean that it shouldnt even be done. thats just my opinion though i guess.

most djs these days are just producers that have to spin to make any kind of real money.

Sad but true.

Even if there was a top 100 producers vote, DJ mag's sytem would be the wrong way to go about it. A majority of the people dont know DJs outside pvd, tiesto, armin, oakie etc and letting them vote for producers would result in a list pretty much the same as the dj top 100.

In any case, producing might be a lot harder than DJing, the public doesnt care about what they cant see. I dont know much about the industry but i cant see how helpful being the #1 producer would be to ones career if he/she doesnt DJ.

Did people care about who wrote the songs for the backstreet boys:p ?

das is true yes but there are other magazines that people pay attention to like spin that people who do know something about the music actually read

think of it this way...

there are hundreds of people that vote for the DJ Mag DJ Poll every year that are not involved in EDM and they vote for the only names they are familiar with (eg. Tiesto, Armin, PvD) and ignore the dj names they dont recognize... which are infact some of the best ones.

so when they'll do a Top Producers poll, the results will most likely be the same... the noobs will vote for the most popular dj/producers... the only difference is that for this poll there will be a larger list of names to choose from... some of which not even all EDM listeners would know.

so by all means, if u wanna see basically a second version of the DJ Poll, then its worth a shot.

no no, its a great idea for sure. we don't mean to discourage you, we're just answering your question as to why there isn't and probably shouldn't be a top producer poll.

just its not too practical.

Even the dj polls are somewhat tainted by votes of those who are not familiar with EDM.
I wish there was a way to restrict voting of such polls to people that actually listen to the genres. (maybe by taking a quiz or something? lol)

1. not everything is available digitally
2.promos and unreleased tracks are in abundance if you know the right people
3.Most of the stuff on beatport or any digital download site was being spun by someone months and sometimes even years before its official release to the public.

You also cannot forget about personal edits, reworks and bootlegs.
With all the technology to do this readily available a good dj must tweak tunes to be unique and true to their sound. Its what differentiates the resident dj for life vs a dj that people will pay to have travel and play.People just playing stuff they found on beatport will not have a dj career that amounts to much.;) As important as mixing skills are, the most important thing for a dj to make it has always been to find rare(but good) tracks that no one else has.If you dont have unique material you simply will not stand out.To those who will bring up the point of huge anthem dj's(tiesto or okenfold lets say), well....they werent always that way and get bookings on name alone.

electro funk, knowing mmusic is not being able to trainspot/name tracks, but to actually understand its formula and see its direction.Ask the same clubbers you believe know music what a bar or movement is;) Its one thing to listen, quite another to dwelve deep and appreciate a song beyond the obvious.

She says she'll pick it up instead...I'm sick in bed right now and she's helping me recover.

BTW...I can name 100x more producers than deejays...but the problem is that I can't name many producers with more than 2 songs that I like...most are pretty much one hit wonders (for me.)
