My computer's survival instinct

Now there's something I had never heard of.

I can't turn down my computer off anymore. Actually, I can but, if I do, it seems not to communicate with the monitor for a couple of hours, and I need to insist a lot (and play with the electric plugs) so I can use it again.

Now I have too keep it running 24/7, and pray there are no black-outs :conf:

mines always on 24/7. im surprised none of my drive have crashed yet, they are all used prior to me getting them, and since ive gotten them, they are running 24/7. the oldest drive of mine is about 4 years old, its been running strong 24/7 the whole time.

edit: check the monitor cable, it may be going bad, or maybe your video card. you may want to try a different monitor or video card.

I believe it's the video card. Tried it with another monitor already and got the same results.

I'm thinking of buying a new card actually, and stop being such a cheap bastard :p

if you have an agp system, you may just want to rebuild your system around a pci-e motherboard. pci-e is the way the the fuuuuture, agp is just about dead now. i believe in a year or so, new agp cards will stop being made. the geforce 7 series has an agp card, but i have a feeling it isnt as good as it could be due to low bandwidth agp bus

my comps pretty much on 24/7, just started having problems with it a couple days ago. first it lost the soundcard drivers, would completely freeze/restart at random times. it restarted spontaneously a few times today too...

Mine's been on 24/7 for about 3-4 years. It's set to go on standby after 2 hours of inactivity.

never had problems with either of my nvidia cards, i had a radeon 7000 back in the day that gave me some driver troubles. i was able to overclock the out of both of my nvidia cards, with no heating problems. i got from 225/400 to 420/420 on my fx5700le. with the 6800 i got from 325/400 to around 500/775. none of the overclocks gave me any artifacts or heating problems. i <3 nvidia
