cubase/battery question

Ok .. here is a problem I am having. I have two cells in battery which together form a kick sound. Now I want these to be bounced to a mono audio file. I used cubase to do this, but the resulting file seems to be clipped/distorted.

What I did was make a one-hit midi sequence and export the track.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Or is there a better/easier method?

With me, when I export an audio mixdown and choose to open it in the project it is always a few db louder, often clipping. Maybe you just need to turn down the bounced audio track? I haven't faced this prob for a while but I don't think the actual audio file was clipping, just the extra volume of the new track.

This still puzzles me; why it raises the volume of exported tracks:conf:

Could it be because it is converting each stereo track into a mono track?

oh and it is clipped because I can see it in when I open it up in an editor.. .
No Left Turn
instead of bouncing to a mono file, why not just send them out a mono output in battery?

Ok ... and if I do that how should I go about making a sample file out of it? There are pitch and volume envelopes in Battery shaping the sound. Battery doesn't have a save as an auio file that I can see.

if you set it to a mono output in battery, and then export in cubase, you can open it into your favourite editor and convert it to mono; dicarding one of the stereo tracks.

or - you can use a stereo plug, like waves S1 and just set the width to zero (cubase has a stereo plug built in btw)

or you can export it as stereo and use your favourite wave editor to convert it to mono.

So no matter what it needs to be coming out of battery in Mono?

And then cubase will still handle it as stereo?

So, I need to use one of these methods to reconvert it back to mono?

correct?

Just being sure I understand correctly.. .

And if I do, why does it matter if it is coming out of mono or stereo in Battery if I will be converting it anyway?

Cheers...
