The Fantom range are close to the JV series (Think ROMpler) than the JPs (Physical Modelling).
The Fantoms do have some phyiscally modelled Effects (COSM Guitar amps spring to mind), but overally it's a Sample playback device.
They sound very very good though, but they're just not JP-8x supersaw machines. |

| Buy a good midi keyboard and later on synth modules (like JP8080). |

They key questions is: "Can you really play keyboards / a piano"?
If yes, then the Fantom will make a great master controller + a great sound source. A solid foundation to build on if you're going hardware.
If you can't treally play then the benefit of having a progressively weighted piano action will be lost, and you may as well get something much cheaper in the keyboard department. |

weighted action is only really for people familiar with playing piano. If you have no keyboard/piano experience whatsoever it wont matter and you will get used to it.
The people that tend to play semi weighted/non weighted/synth action keyboards find it awkward getting used to weighted action. And vice versa. Its to do with what you are familiar with.
As nerdboy said, the JP and Fantom are not comparible. They do completely different things. Demo one before you buy it. |

That's a good idea. If you're determined to get one of the three you mentioned though Khayat, I'd say JP or SH-201.
The JP and 201 are very similar, They have the same sound engine. The 201 is £450 at DV247, and that's roughly what you'll pay for a used JP. After getting used to my Waldorf Pulse I'm getting either a JP or 201, but only the JP if it's £300 or less.
The way I see the pros and cons of the two are:
JP has Chorus effect and EQ, 8 note polyphony for kb and 10+vocoder for 8080. But you have to buy used.
201 has no chorus or EQ, but reverb, 10 note polyphony, external inputs for filter, usb connection (for audio and midi) and vst plugin to control sounds/save patches etc. Also will be brand new, a big plus IMO. Designed for ease of use - good beginners synth (I've heard the JP is quite easy to use too though).
Hope that helps

I have a Jp8000, and whilst I love it; I don't really need it (it's not for sale btw)
it's a doddle to use if you understand synthesis - or can just twiddle knobs.
I don't use it much because soft synths have eclipsed it imho
it is a classic - it is blue and it does sound nice, but it isn't essential as there are better virtual analogs out there; even in softsynth form.
I'd be looking at something way cooler than a fantom if I had that cash - the V-synth looks loveley; as do some of the hybrid vst/hardware synths |

Guys wut do u think about the CLAVIA NORD ELECTRO II ??
Is it pure trance 2 like the Jp or not.I read it produces organs sounds..? |

Dude, the nord electro is an electro mechanical stage piano. A digital clone of one anyway.
Go right ahead and sink 1500 quid into it...if you want to sound like Stevie Wonder...
You *have* to try it out before you buy something. Even if it makes sounds you like, theres still no guarantee you will like programming it. You *have* to try it out. |

As others pointed out, if you want trancy sounds, saws, noises, bleeps, atmospheric pads etc, go for either Nord rack 3, JP8000/8080 or a Virus...
No need for a Nord Electro or a Fantom weighted keys synth in EDM for now... |
