anyone see 60 minutes last night? (since the death of carlton ive been enjoying the show a whole lot more). ok, thats not true at all but i thought id chuck it in there.
anywayz, they did this story on some retarded children with insane music talent. blind, previously unable to walk, yet with absolute perfect pitch and musical genius. it was crazy to see these children copy & improvise on music they only heard once a few minutes before. the bit where the kid is asked to play mozart\'s piece of music as if beethoven had written it was ridiculous. maximum respect.
never having seen a savant in action it was fvcking cool to watch.
theres hope out there for the rest of you retards then...

Ahh damn I missed the show :/
It's incredible seeing the potential of the human mind albeit one trapped inside the body of an autistic or retard; those extremely rare cases of normal children becoming "acquired savants" after experiencing damage to the brain or central nervous system seems to suggest that these abilities lie dormant in all of our unconscious minds. It's been proven that we are all capable of remembering every moment we have ever experienced down to the most minute detail under hypnosis; the capacity for our unconscious minds to store limitless amounts of information is amazing - unfortunately our aptitude for recalling and processing this information through the subconscious and conscious proves to be the bottleneck, though hopefully after ten thousand years we'll have evolved to more properly utilise the amazing potential our brains have. :)
It's interesting that Savants are normally remarkably gifted musicians or prodigious mathemeticians, i'm guessing this would be due to brain abnormalities in either the creative and intuitive right brain hemisphere or the logical and linear left. However the similarities between our faculties of Music and Math far outnumber the differences: “Music is the pleasure the human mind experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting.” - G. Wilhelm Leibniz

Yeh last nites doco on meth was balls compared to it, obviously being prime time and on commercial tv they had restriction on what they could report on. |
