oh.

let me ask you this. did you have recruiters at your high school or college campus when you were there? i'm actually assuming you went to public school and not home schooled by granola eating pagans.;)

i also want to remind you that, although sounding terribly cliche' in this environment, we are at "war". the military has always taken a very different approach to recruiting policy now as opposed during peace time. it's just how they operate, not necessarily an indictment of incompetency on unrelated levels.

i've known many (well i'd say 5-6 confirmed gay dudes) in the service that i was in. it was an all male service. it wasn't that uncommon.

if a healthy gay guy/girl wants to be in the military, the only thing that would stop him would be their gayness.

okay so we both agree the military is desperate for recruits. next thread

All this is a reflection of US military conduct in Iraq i.e. utter disregard for the Geneva Convention and universal human rights (apart from the desperation factor of course).

youre using the letter of the law to defeat the spirit of the law. even criminals have certain rights & protections. i dont see the difference just because these fighters dont wear a recognised uniform.

Do recruiters get a bonus for exceding thier quota.?

monetarily, no. there are greater chances for advancement (promotion) and certain "bene's" that are given at the discretion of that particular command.

there's another thread about this, but the fundamental purpose of the GC is to define by writ law just who is applicable to to the rights defined and who is not.

GC not accomodating enough? change the ing law!

that "spirit of the law" crap is exactly whats wrong.

done.

fine, but just because someone doesnt fall under the definition it doesnt follow that they therefore have no rights at all. like i said- the US would never be able to hold a bunch of murderers & rapists in the same way they are holding those at camp xray. they are either criminals or they are fighters; labelling them as criminal fighters without rights under the GC or protections for due process isnt right.

don't let gays into the army! they might contaminate the normal people!

:p

Well, to start off, I'm going to quote PKC:

The Forth Geneva convention protects civilians. I didn't know abduction, detainment, torture, sexual humiliation, and murder of civilians fell under your definition of protection, or acceptable military conduct. Ofcourse you chose to ignore the second part of my post regarding human rights. But that is to be expected from you.

A decade after the Pentagon declared a zero-tolerance policy for racist hate groups, recruiting shortfalls caused by the war in Iraq have allowed "large numbers of neo-Nazis and skinhead extremists" to infiltrate the military, according to a watchdog organization.

:o

watchdog organization? that's a credible source, considering the name isn't even mentioned... hmm... i'm still suprised at how well you write Opus, indicating you're somewhat intelligent, but am confused by the quality of the subject matter you post in this political forum.
