Monkey is the at fault party. What I'm saying is that if I were the lady she hit I'd want to claim against my own policy (under Direct compensation) rather then settling privately. I can trust my insurance company, I cannot say the same for the person who rear-ended me.

Wow... honest and very nice people in this town...

They found a place that is $495... and they declined me offering to pay for a rental vehicle...

Sorry to hear about that, I almost did that once when I first started driving. It's all about exp and what you learn.

At least your no one hurt, that's the main point

I've been driving for 10 years and I probably drive twice as much as most people do in one year, but sometimes you just get lazy... it was a regular corner that I turn... I think most accidents happen within 10km of your home right?

That's what I heard. But, it's true ... you tend to get lazy near the home stretch. I wasn't assuming you were a new driver, happens to everyone and I was just giving you an example which I had that was like yours.

OK, So I am waiting to turn right at this light that I am used to turning at... I look to see that the way is clear and I gun it assuming the person in front of me has gone... oops... I bumped into her...

I am such an idiot.

Minor damage... about $600 to their car... My car is fine...

Question is, should I settle outside of insurance?

yes definitly!!!!

I agree with everyone else, just suck up the $600 and move on. :sadgreen:

If you go the private route, make sure to write up a settlement document outlining what you have done (repaired the car) and releasing you from future claims (property or personal).

That is a good idea, but from personal experience I can tell you that contracts like this often are not all that they would appear to be.
It is still possible to get screwed. The ontario court system does not give much help in honouring these type of agreements.

If I may ask, Lindsay, was this on or near King Street? Everybody I know who has had an accident has had one happen turning onto King from one of those sidestreets.
