depends on a level of experience, dedication, talent.
I am a 4 years into messing with synth not a single track (and I mean 0) to show for it.
cleaning out my studio as we speak, time to move on to other more productive hobbies. I'm sure there are going to be other stories opposite of that. |

From the time i get home from work till i go to sleep pretty much & my lunch break. :p I get home around 5-6 and go to sleep 9-10. Thats almost everyday then on the weekends i just never leave my seat.:tongue3 :wtf:
I never finish songs either hahaha i mess around, read, learn how works or practice mah piano skillz and read up on music theory. I make alot of loops that sound good but never make a full track.:( Plus i have a hard time on arrangement...
I say in a week i might pull out 24 hours:eyespop:
Damn i just realized how much im on here can you say hermit hahaha...

I spend about 2-3 hours average per day. It takes me about 3 weeks to finish a song. Been producing since 1991. |

Right now pretty much half my waking time. And never less than 1 hour a day.
That is when I'm at home of course.
I have done a range of finished tracks, of course most will need some more work though. |

I love every minute of it, so I think all the time (and money) is very well-spent. :) |

If I dont have a creativity block it may take me 2 nights to finish the most of a song. It once took me a total of about 7 hours to totally finish a song. Most of the time though, I just make a bunch of cool loops that dont get put together. |

I hardly produce at all nowadays - I've found that noodling around with no ideas really doesn't lead anywhere for me. That's why I only produce when I know exactly what I'm doing... about 5-10 hours in 2 weeks.
My latest track (Wolf Tracks, see sig) was made entirely in 1 sitting. Took about 4-5 hours. |

About 40 hours per week mastering clients tracks.
10 hours per week on my own tracks and remixes.
About a week per track. |

I spent about 1-2 hr's a day, depending on the track I am working on. But it's about 6 hr's a week. I take days off, and been doing it since early 90's...
I wrote this before on this board, but my advice to people who spend all their time on production - Make sure you don't neglect your life... do other things as well. Meet people go out, spend time with friends. Don't just make music 24/7 and stay home. I've seen too many people who , well most of them regret after, that they spent more time producing than enjoying other stuff in life. Of course this is diefferent if making music is your day time job. So 40 hr's would be norm ;). I am not trying to discurage anyone from making music. I do it to and I love it, But I have other hobbies, and have my own family now. You live only once :) Experiance stuff.. |

When I find time I love to spend all day, I try to stay as focussed as possible - creating sounds for a track, not just messing with stuff I havent played with before, although I know you can spend all day doing that too! |
