9.6/10 | 02. Swoop - Superlicious (Funk D’Void Remix) (7:56) [Craft Music]

Just previewed these beauties on beatport.com and instantly bought them. Here's an improvised, mini-review:

First we have a remix by Gregor Tresher. Although he sounds heavily influenced by Holden, Chardronnet and Schumacher, it is by no means a negative. In fact, imitation is considered by many the greatest form of flattery. A wonderful production which unlike many these days totally redeems the original track, "Black Market" by Swoop (which was simply average in my opinion). From the very first listen, this song may give any electronic music enthusiast such a rewarding rush that it could certainly bring about a feeling of anxiety for the second track in this release. After all, how often do remix releases have one shining production and the rest is forgettable 'filler' material.

Funk D'Void however takes the sledgehammer to the wall with his remix, creating a breathtakingly original work (even if arguably, slightly similar to some other techno stylists of today), while keeping in close touch with the original production by Swoop as well (far better original than "Black Market" also in my opinion). Using realistic heavy toms and hats/cymbals, insane effects and obliterating bass and synth lines, Lars Sandberg creates a stunning & menacing 'wall of sound' effect for his sublime remix of the second track, "Superlicious".

A must have for minimal techno fans and open-minded, progressive electronic music enthusiasts.

Edit: After many listens, I'd say Tresher's remix sounds a little less polished or maybe... emotional (difficult to describe how I feel about it), but Funk D'Void's remix has grown me even more now; bringing about a feeling of powerful, emotional frenzy within me parallel to something like running away from some beast in a dark nightmare. Similar to what I feel when I listen to Özgür Can & Marcus Schossow's "Blåbärsmonstret". Ratings for each track updated at the top accordingly.
Phortastic
