Live mix cd's

I have heard so many, some good and some not so good but I have a question about them. Are they pre programmed before the set or does the dj still play like he/she normally would and pick tracks based off of the crowd? I understand that a lot of these top dogs can pretty much get away with playing anything just because they are Armin or Sasha but it still bugs me to think that these live mix compilations have already been completely thought out. Especially Sasha's double disc from his live gig at Avalon in LA. That is a whole lot of tunes to just pre plan while not really caring whether the club will be into it or not.

The DJ has to get a license for every track in order to sell the album. I guess it's easier for them to get all the licenses in advance and pre-plan a set to record, rather than record the set and hope the artists/labels will license the tracks to that DJ.

The Sasha set wasnt pre-planned as far as I could tell. Ableton crashed and he had to play a few tracks off CD...not to mention that if was pre-planned its really sad that the tracklist on his site is chock full of gross errors.

So if Ableton crashed did the music just stop?

Well it bugged...so the music stops for 6-7 seconds before he uses a different channel in live and started the clip again. Its on the recording. He then mixed out of ableton via cd while they figured out what was wrong.

maybe this apleton crash was also pre-planed? these tracks from cd were good "proof" that nothing was pre-planed...
