Control Automations

hi everyone, i'm using a novation sl61 keyboard, i can control vsti's with the knobs etc. but they are not getting recorded as midi data. What am i missing to do to make cubase pic up the automation data? thanks

ps. on a side note, for audio effects like camel space and camel phat, they have midi learn functions, but i can't make my keyboard control these parameters (maybe because its an audio effect and not midi, i'm not sure how to get that running either)

much appreciation to your help! thanks

The 'R' button on the left of the midi track stands for 'read' which means it reads from the CC automation curves when highlighted (green).

The 'W' button on the left of the midi track stands for 'write' which means it writes controller changes as you move knobs etc.

So automation won't work if you don't highlight 'R', and you won't be able to record controller changes in real-time unless you highlight 'W'.

Make sure you de-select 'W' when you don't want to record controller changes otherwise you'll be messing around and record changes by accident.

;)

Not sure about the midi-learn.

thanks for the response, i'm so dumb lol, i should of known that, just wasn't thinking. I'm still a little erked on midi learn for an audio effect if anyone uses those plugins and can tell me how they automate them, that would be great!

The correct answer is actually RTFM.

This is basic Cubase 101. If you can't figure out how to automate WITH the manual, I don't think you'll be getting very far. When one asks such simple questions it's only natural to assume you pirate'd it and don't have the manual.

I thought most pirated versions of Cubase come with the manual?
