i actually meant that thy DO have low ceilings, it was the minor buzz i had when writing that :toothless
And I like to support local talent too, I just have to pick and choose shows or I'd be out almost every night and every weekend - which I'd LIKE to do... it just isn't reasonable.
I will get to Bacchus house soon tho.. i swear! |

Who cares? The last time it was just Sharam @ 4th & B and he absolutely killed it!
Alot of the good talent is busy doing gigs in Ibiza and the rest of Europe for the summer. When it's over, they'll make their way back to all over So Cal. |

The Love concept was more or less an experiment for us to see where the underground side of the SD nightlife market was at. We left a steady, easy gig at Broadway every week for a chance to throw some real events... although we knew the chances of success were minimal.
The market proved to be right about where we thought it was. Big enough to support top tier dj's but definitely not able to sustain a weekly in a 2000+ capacity venue with anything less than that.
4th and B really cannot sustain a weekly nightclub environment either, becasue it's essentially a concert venue, production costs are astronomical, and only large scale one-off shows are really cost feasible.
Too bad... it would have been nice to see a healthier San Diego underground scene, but it's not dead, just slightly dormant. And we plan on doing our best to revive it over the months ahead. Until momentum builds up again in the underground, mainstream clubs like Belo and On Broadway will continue to be the only places for half way reasonable weekly events.
Love is not dead either... like earlier posts alluded to, the night will continue on an irregular basis with one-off style events. Line-ups are looking pretty impressive for late summer and early fall... so hopefully everyone will prepared to come out again and pick up where we left off... |

I've seen just Sharam 3 x now and it has been absoloutely ROCKING every time. The couple times I've seen both of them it has been also, just longer stes - which is good - and typically Ali takes over into the darker vibe. I would like to see a show with just Ali sometime, but.. bring it all on :D
Glad there's a couple active companies paying attention to the scene though. keep up the good work! |

niiiice. belo's ok.. maybe I'm just super picky, but I like high cielings and sick lights, lax dress code is nice too - but i'll do what it takes for the choOnZ |
I agree totally. I used to like Broadway with the big disco ball and the lasers and since they took both down and serve dinner until, I dunno, CLOSING TIME(!!), I think it sucks. Plus the prices have gotten way out of whack.
I really love 4th and B with the new sound system, very relaxed and chill security, and Jen the bartender is the bomb. When I get home and am unable to articulate what kind of time I had, I know it was good.
I haven't been yet, I'm not really excited about Belo as a replacement venue. |

You know... I hae to say something honest here... I went to AVB and had a great time with the Giant/Polka dot/Realivize Tribe crews work there. It was about music and dancing and very little on the theatrics side. My friend had a 21st night upstairs the night Nick Warren was there... and it wasn't half as enjoible. Maybe it was like they were trying too hard to pull people in. I had to ditch before Warren came on, but the guy who opened made the place fall asleep... and even upstairs... with my friends on and off... the vibe wasn't there.
Maybe it was me... the cool thing was I got to talk to the lighting guy about his job. It seemed like Love was about the talent and the overall show for a while... but then it stagneted into another realm of thought... stuff that just didn't appeal much to me.
Not to mention I had a spree of being poor as hell! lol...
I guess I felt like love wasn't pulling in talent locally and was pulling in mid-range deejays. I truly support our local boys and girls... they do a superb job at throwing fun nights. I also felt like Love was missing something... especially the Warren night... something just didn't seem like it was there... |

| ^^^ maybe people? Girls? I remember that being a slower night on both fronts. Nick Warren was tight tho! |

Re: Love Fridays.
As a SD resident I love to see A-LIST DJs bring their act here.
But 4th and B is just too massive to pack them in weekly and
have the "party" vibe you need for the place to really go off.
I think its a great idea to do one-offs here and there and
that should work great when the Tiesto's and the PVD's
come to town.
I had hoped the 4am end time would be a huge benefit for
Love Fridays, but I guess most San Diegans like to be in
bed by 2. |
