Hey everyone Im here to discuss the trance of the year 2001
Personally I think it sucks...
I dont know why but everything sounds more techno and dark hard trance and I dont like it very much
I got many of the cd's and live sets we all are talking about and I havent kept one yet.
I loved the music of the year 2000. It was amazing
although the sets were repetitive at times the trance energy 2000 sets were my favourite.
I have all the johan, tiesto, corsten sets as well as many others like PVD and ATB and so on
I personally love Epic & Dream trance and this year so far has been quite the dissapointement.
Please tell me what you think and I appologize if I have offended anyone by this thread........
If anyone has any suggestions on music for me from 2001 please do tell
Like I said my heart lies with epic and dream trance
thanx
here are some of my favourite sets I wont go into single tracks cause I have too many to list

Tiesto - trance energy 2000, Innercity
Corsten - TE 2000, Innercity
Johan Gielen - TE 2000, club eau
Armin VB - most sets
ATB - Summer end rave

I do agree with ya and i don't =p..
the sound of trance has moved away from the dream / epic trance genre and moved upbeat, with stronger basslines, and less "no bassline bits in the track"..
there aren't many tracks which I would fully consider to be "dream or epic trance" this year so far.. nor in the latter half of 2000.
the tendency for uplifting but hard tracks are filling vinyl boxes..
stuff on Tsunami and ITWT seem to be hitting that region.. released from late 2000 - now
including

Tony Walker - Field of Joy
THreesome - Gobi
and Stargate - Beams of Light
have showed that to an extent.

Dream Trance in 2001? I don't think it'll happen.. coz the production of tracks and the DJing go hand in hand.. djs don't play dream tracks, not much produced. Alternatively, dream trance not produced, no djs can play it.. =p

the two acts who i can think of who suffices the 'dream trance' genre TO ME.. is Airscape and Rank 1..
u might disagree.. but n e wayz..
the trance scene moves as a trend.. 1997 was the likes of robert miles, 1998 was oakenfold-esque, 1999 was pvd's glory and also the glory of commercial trance *cough cough*, 2000 tended towards a more 'underground sound' whilst maintaining dreamy elements, and 2001 has been tending towards hard trance.. or solid basslines
thats all i have to say..

I guess i'll agree too...i like dream and epic trance too and most of what I hear nowadays is too hard.

Everyone's tryin to do some different beats and bassline but mess up the main trance elements of the song.most songs seem without focus and lack catchy elements.

i downloaded a whole lot of 10 pointers from Shadow zone and was totally dissapointed by the quality of what i heard.

i agree with infinity on Rank1 and Airscape....their remixes are not flashy and have a lot of melodic elements. One notable remix of airscape to prove this is Safri Duo - Played a live (Airscape mix)
I will also include Ferry Corsten,Lange,Armin to that list.

some songs of Shane 54 & Sterbinszky and also good.

i understand where your coming from but i do believe change is good! the way i look at it... its a journey from one year too the next, if it all stayed the same u would eventually get bored... i think the year 2001 will have alot too offer ... dj's are just experimenting with new sounds and techniques, due too so much competetion out there ... like alot of people say the likes of oakie have become stale and less creative, its nice too see other dj's like tiesto and avb are still full of surprises! i think it will balance out in the end.

respect2all laterz;)

Thank you all for your response
I have not given up yet because I have not heard any tiesto or corsten sets this year or some others for that matter....
so maybe there is still hope...... :)
I like harder trance but I want some melodies in it too
not necessarily buildups but nice melodies with a hard fast beat will suffice.......
Im not sure if this is considered at all harder trance but
Aira - Dido is a great track
also olmec heads are great etc........
So We will just have to see, but I definetly dont like nunrg and dark trance or techno

Hey pepi i tottaly agree with you......Trance-beats should have melodies and harmonies all mixed upp with steady beats and pahat basses....thats what you mean right? :)

ok here's what I think: You're right about the part that trance music is becoming harder with time. But I think the big element here is that people start to go a lot more in raves/clubs and want music you can dance on. Epic/melodic trance is really REALLY great (trust me, that's what I love too) but the thing is that you cannot dance a lot on it. When arrives the melodic part (piano, organ, single vocal), people just can't still dance on it .. and it's kinda confusing when you have to dance-stop-dance-stop. It breaks completly the energy.

You still can find EXCELLENT tracks tho with nice melodic riffs and still with the 2001 harder style. For example you can take "Quicksilver - Ameno". This track is ABSOLUTLY PERFECT with a nice classic vocal that brings melody in it. But you still can dance on it when it's well mixed.

To sum it up, I think trance is becoming harder and harder only because of the growing popularity of trance and its rave/club culture. I can't say I totally approve the way trance is taking, but I think whatever will happen, trance will always survive. Trance is to good and it makes you feel so great that I think it'll never die (well I HOPE it will not) .. That's what I think .. Later guys
