Hay Guyz!

So I'm staying at the folk's place for the holidays and they're on cable just like me and we use the same ISP.. I brought my computer to play Wow cause my Dad's rig is just too slow to run it..

so I tried to hook up mine to his connexion but it just wont recognise it, its as if nothing was connected. I tried everything, resetting the modem, restarting the cpu, trying to reset the IP adress, no dice.

Should it be compatible or is there something I'm missing?

Thanx in advance to all the g33ks that will come to my rescue

how is the ip assigned to your computer?

Is it through a dhcp server from the modem or do you have to manually set your ip, subnet and gateway etc?

I suggest you do this on both computers ( your own and your dads ):

go to the control panel:
Click Network Connections
Right click on Local Area Connection ( take note if there's already anything different in the Status column ) and choose properties
Go down the list and select Tcp/Ip
Click properties
It will display the general tab of properties for Tcp/Ip
Compare results between both computers ( Obtain IP automatically?? Use the following adress?? )
Temperate
I would call the ISP, they can fix anything

Thanx Jdat, its working now.. all I had to do is unplug the modem completely and wait a few minutes, then reboot. At first I only switched it off then back on.

So yeah, Wow time:thepirate
