I'm not sure if that's what happened. I know some about computers but I'm no expert. If that actually is the case then I don't believe you can repair the harddrive. Sometimes - not often - they just fail like that.

When stuff like that happens, I give my computer to my dad to see what he can do.

Try shutting off your computer totally. Not just restarting and then let it set for a minute or two and see. If it still happens, maybe call customer service at Dell and find out. Just a warning though...Dell's customer service is absolutly terrible (my family as well as a number of people I know have ALL had extremly bad service from them)...but you gotta do what you gotta do!

There could be an issue with your boot partition to windows. If you have your original Windows system setup disks, put them in and boot off the CD. When you get into the setup area(blue screen) press R to repair.

If that doesn't work, boot in safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly. Boot into safe mode and then into recovery mode, select the last known config settings and see if this works.

If you can't get beyond this, give Dell a call 1-800-387-5757, tell em you did all this and you think it could be a hardware defect. They'll replace parts for you, but you'd have to back up all your data, so make sure you are able to do that.

Hope this helps.

not if you call the number above and give the express service code, to be honest these days their service is better than HP, I'd take it for what it's worth or go all out and buy a Fujitsu, amazing models they are.

Well the most recent problem, my dad ordered a monitor and speakers from them. After telling us they were back ordered and it would take longer - that's fine, it happens. We finally get a shipment. We get two speakers and no monitor. We call Dell - and it was quite hard to finally get a hold of someone to help us - they told us it wasn't their fault, we have to call the post office. We call the post office and they tell us it was Dell's fault. So we call Dell AGAIN, and they say fine, we'll ship you the monitor when you ship us back the speakers. Well my parents aren't going to pay for THEIR screw up, so we had to get in touch with someone ELSE and they said that they'd ship us the monitor and labels and such to ship the other speaker back. We finally get the monitor and ship the speaker back...but it took us MONTHS to finally get everything straight and like I said...VERY hard to get in touch with someone that could actually help us without blaming someone else.

My brother has also had similar problems when he ordered a Dell laptop as well. In addition, one month after use the DVD burner broke I believe.

I've heard stories from other people as well - including Cale - that have had problems with Dell's customer service. People not returning calls, long wait times, no one knowing what is going on.

Ok I had no idea it was that bad. Our company buys lots of Dell's, too bad the rate of failure on them is high hardware wise, and vendors won't vouch for it. For my personal use, I won't buy from them, I'd rather put my own stuff together which is what I do. If I want a lappy like I said I'd get a Fujitsu or Mac. Can't go wrong with either one.
