Giant changing it's status again (re: honoring NYE tickets at Giant Village)

Note: This post is of my own accord. It does not reflect nor is it influenced by my involvement with any city, club, people, promoter, or whatever. Just think this whole situation sucks for a lot of people,

Anyhow, this story just won't go away. This whole thing could be resolved with just a little organized, me thinks.

From danceblogga (A blog by Dennis Romero, an EDM columnit down in LA and who soulds like a no bull guy. I give him a big thumbs up for keeping the scene in check down there! One of the few writers around that writes abotu EDM and has integrity. Would personally love to meet the guy. Sure we could get into a deep conversation about the scene, clubs, promoters, issues, etc etc. :p)

Los Angeles' "Giant" club promoters recently told the press that folks who were left holding tickets after the last-minute cancellation of their New Year's Eve party could come to a July 22 event at the same spot in downtown Los Angeles next weekend free. But now Giant is putting up a velvet rope, or perhaps a roadblock. According to an email blast from Giant today, "Tickets from the past New Year's Eve event will not be accepted at the door of the upcoming Giant Village . If you are still holding a ticket for the December 31, 2005 Giant Village and wish to attend the July 22, 2006 Giant Village, you must contact us by 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2006 at [email protected] to exchange the old tickets for new tickets." Similar past offers from the promoters to molify NYE ticket-holders didn't go so well, at least not for people I've talked to, so good luck.

Also, I'd like to know exactly what's preventing organizers from accepting the New Year's Eve tickets, especially after making assurances to the press that those left high (and very dry, I might add) last Dec. 31 would be allowed to come to the July 22 show gratis.

Furthermore, the email continued to repeat an untruth: "We were unable to host the annual Giant Village last New Year's Eve due to extreme weather conditions." As I've reported, last reports of any serious rain downtown that day were at 4 p.m. Let's put this in perspective: Surfing Ghost Trees during an epic north swell: Extreme. Riding Mammoth off-trail in avalanch conditions: Extreme. Wearing a red jogging suit in crip territory: Extreme. Dancing on a cloudly night in L.A.: Not extreme! It turned out to be a dry night. The promoters held the previous event in the rain, by the way.

I don't understand what the problem is, the blast informs people that in order for the NYE tickets to be honored they have to get in touch with Giant and exchange them. They're not charging any money.

The point is the hassle they are causing everyone to go through. If people actually do still have their tickets, what is the issue with them just using it at the gate? Just as Dennis said.

Then there's the fact that just a week ago they were saying the would honor the NYE tickets at the door.

Get the policies straight I say!

My guess it is a headcount control issue, unless there is "limitless" capacity. By issuing new tickets for the NYE tickets and the selling of new tickets they will know exactly how many to expect/allow/plan for inside the event.

That's Giant's problem and should not be passed onto the ticketholders from NYE. They've already been put through enough crap.

There are TONS of other big events out there (EDM and non-EDM) where you use your original tickets for a date that's cancelled and rescheduled. Why does this have to be different.

Cause giant wants to make the most money possible.

Because usually if it is an event with assigned seats you know exactly how many seats have been sold and are still available. The date is somewhat inconsequential. With an event such as this I assume Giant can issue only a specified amount of tickets. In order to conform to this they need to have an accurate headcount. That would not be possible if people are using two different sets of tickets. Giant is still actively promoting the event and pushing additional ticket sales. I know I get the emails.

I don't see what the big deal is. The original event was canceled not because Giant threw a tizzy fit, rather a severe act of nature. Granted it is a hassle but it is a hassle for all involved

Oh boy... *grabs crystal ball*

I see lots of confusion... Many angry people, some with tickets in hand and some saying that they were told they'd be put on a list but weren't.

Glad I'm not going.

I purchased my original NYE tickets through a third party vendor and I mailed my tickets to Giant for a refund. I wrote to them about the situation and they are giving me free tickets to this event as well as the refund for the tickets that I purchased for NYE.

As far as I'm concerned, they've done a decent job trying to make it up to people.

It's going to be a cluster regardless, but at least they are trying.

Exactly, it's a head count. Thats like going to Avalon, being on the list, and assuming you can just walk right in. You still need a free ticket so they can count you as someone who came in.

Exchanging tickets seems like a hassle but it is a good idea. Everyone needs to have the same ticket so that the flow of traffic getting in will be fast and organized. If people had different tickets (old tickets for News Years) the line will be a cluster . Customer service can handle all problems before the event instead of dealing with it at the door. Some people may not even have there old receipts, the original card it was issued on, people not authorized to pick up tickets...etc. I would envision mass confusion and long, long, lines. As long as Giant exchanges your ticket I see no problems with what they are doing.
