| every number you could get has the same symbol im guessing |
|

| all possible answers share the same symbol. the symbol changes each time, but all answers still share the same symbol |

Easy:
You choose a number
N
which can be written down as
10x + y = N
Now, they want you to subtract the sum of the two digits of the number, so...
10x + y - (x + y) = 9x
So the number you get will always be a multple of 9, and if you check multiples of 9 always have the same symbol.
BTW, this is ancient |

Seen these before.
No matter what numbers you pick, your answer is a multiple of 9.
| quote: |
Pick a random 2 digit number.
= 10x + y (eg 10*2 = 20. Then add 3. 23)
Add the digits.
= x + y (2+3 = 5)
Subtract from the random number.
= 10x + y - (x + y)
= 10x + y - x - y
= 10x - x
= 9x
ie: 23 - 5 = 18.
2*9 = 18
If you look, every symbol for a multiple of 9 ( 9,18,27,36 etc) is the same.
Its the only answer you can get, so it appears magic.
