| i cant see myself drive anything but european automobiles. not to say that the japanese are not quality, they are they kik ass as well. i got a 97 bmw 325 coupe and i couldnt be happier. my friend had a hyundai accent and it wasnt that bad but th quality of the car was not exactly fantastic. btw, interesting car related story: i heard here on the news some time back how "stick shift cars are a thing of the past" i almost laughed especially how the whole world drives a stick (including myself) except for the u.s. and a few other places. |

i drive an ack (acura) which i love
we had a car show on the weekend and i was most impressed by mercedes. damn man, i love that new CL350 kompressor....now that's sweet. |

dodge and mitsubishi are not the same.
Dodge is part of the Chrysler motor corp. which is part of DaimlerChrysler.... so on an corporate level, Dodge is the same as Mercedes Benz.
In the late eighties and early nineties, Dodge and Mitsubishi did some joint ventures, swapping platforms and engines, but have nothing to do with each other on a corporate level. This also ceased in '97 i believe. Last product sharing by mitsu/dodge was the engines in the jeeps.
I would drive a hyundai. Thing is, most people just "assume" they are crappy cars b/c of their low sticker price. If any of you go to JDpower.com, you will see hyundais are ranked mid-pack in reliability. They are no super-stars, but they are certainly not boxes. Same cannot be said for Kia and Daewoo.... granted these two nameplates are relatively new to carmaking and do not have the experience Hyundai does. Hyundais aren't going to win any reliability awards, but they certainly aren't going to leave you stranded either.
The flagship XG300 was a close race with the Accord, Passat, and Camry in the Car and Driver article at the end of last year. The new Tiburon has styling done by Pininfarina, and closely resembles the Ferrari 456M.... and has a powerful V6 to boot. The Accent GT won "most appealing" economy-sportscar, and looks good as well. The new Elantras look WORLDS better than the last generation, and have some very sinister-looking headlights, even for an economy car.
Would i drive a Hyundai? Most definitely. They are priced right, just as reliable as the next car, and have a killer warranty. Remember, people sometimes say "they have a great warranty b/c you will need it!" <---- doesn't make sense!! If the cars were always breaking down, the manufacturer would shorten the warranty... they'd lose money on repairs left and right if the cars were so ty. Don't automatically judge and assume without knowing the facts.
....AND i'm not going to buy/sell a car based solely on the nameplate on the hood. Image isn't everything.

Some people drive cars to drive them, I'd prefer to drive them and race them, and I would NOT get a Hyndai to modify.....
But if you're looking for a daily to/from work driver, then, there's nothing wrong with a Hyndai...... |

Not to be pissy, but BMW did not make a 325 coupe in 97, the last year of produciton for the 325is was in 1995, but was then continued in 2001. How well do you know what kind of car you drive? |

depends on the situation...
when I can get 1 for 'a steal'price, maybe, BUT than I would NEED another car as 'hobby' or so, b/c me, as carfreak ONLY a hyundai...NO.
around here, they have a normal image: no bad ass cars, no excellent cars, just the goodoldboringkorean image..
problem is that the car ain't worth anymore when you want to get rid of it. so economy in the end is not really 'that'.
performance: what performance? (LOL, reminds me of a story in the biggest automobilemagazine of holland.. they had a hyundai coupe (car before the tiburon (other name around here)) in a test.. but this was no ordinary test, but a circuittest... and it FAILED!! bad brakes, way too much 'diving', way to soft suspension, badass handling, loads of brakefading etc. etc. ... ranking was like 3or4 out of 10..)
so a hyundai for me would be a car that I would NEVER wash and would take VERY bad care of because it would not interest me @ all (interest goes to the 'mentioned before' hobbycar :) ).
btw: I HATE the looks of the current elantra and sonata (bigger car)... dont like accent and tiburon: mwah... (so looks are NOT gonna do the trick) |

well it may have ceased back then, but i KNOW the new Eclipse is the same as the new Stratus, and those are 2000 models i believe. Mitsus are pretty bad cars tho - i couldnt turn down a Lan Evo, but i also couldnt drive anything else (especially the Galants). EVERYONE ive talked to has a story about something breaking right before their lease went out, not something that instills confidence in me personally. late/ |

I KNEW I was forgetting something...
mitsubishi is partially owned by daimlerchrysler..
I don't know the percentage but it is or 20 percent or 51 percent...
therefor DC has ALOT of influence and they do build stuff together..
for example: in Born (a town in the south of holland) they build several types of mitsubishi's (carisma and spacestar, both utterly boring) but in a couple of years they are goin to produce the all new get funky (:p to ABT:p ) smart roadster. same plant, and smart is also owned by DC.
so no surprise they build more models together..
btw: I have never heard anyone complaining about there mitsubishi..:)
well, maybe about the cars beinb all boring (all which are deliverable in holland, evo 7 is not officially imported, but luckely some small companies get it :) )
