My girlfriends father nearly got strangled by a seatbelt once after flipping his car over and he never wears a seatbelt any more. I think he's got it stuck in his head for life now and no matter how many times I've tried to persuade him, he never listens. I for one always wear the thing, although it hasn't been of any use to me yet...luckily.
The maximum fine you can get is about $500 here, I think. I might be wrong though... |

I wear seatbelts except when I'm in the backseat and I can't find the damn thing.
There are fines if the police catch you not wearing it (but I don't know how much it is). |

If I wasn't bound by privacy laws I could send you some great pictures of two seriously disfigured ladies that were ejected during a roll over (both the only ones in the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt, both the only ones injured). Perhaps this photo of another vehicle involved in a roll over will suffice.... 21 year old girl was fatally injured, again, she was the only one to suffer injuries (other then minor cuts) and the only one not wearing a seatbelt.

I've had claims where that has happened as well. Normally these are extremely high speed impacts where the forces involved are sufficient to cause extensive internal injuries along the seat belt lines. The only one of these I have currently was a head on collision between two vehicles, one travelling *looking up engineer report* 89 KM/h and the other travelling 136 KM/h. It should be noted, however, had the deceased party not been belted he would have been thrown into or likely through the windsheild suffering massive head trauma, which likely would have resulted in his death (conclusion of the bio-mechanical analysis provided by engineer). |
In regards to that, in the accident accident i was involved earlier this month the woman in the other car had her Sternum broken because of the seatbelt, which was very suprising to me, as the speed of the impact was preety low.
I didn't wear the seatbelt then, because there was none for the back seat :(
I always put on my seatbelt whenever i can.
BTW does anyone remember that video where the guy is thrown out of the car onto the other lane ? |

She could have had a degenerative bone condition. I see low speed impacts that result in fractures from time to time.... it's usually what we call a "thin skull" situation; meaning the injured party has some underlying condition that was not a problem prior to the collision but when combined with the forces of the collision results in injuries of greater severity then what would be experienced by someone without said condition. |

lol thats the gayest slogan ever. I hate those commercials where the people get pulled over for it. Who is stupid enough to not buckle up when you get pulled over? |

| For those of you who don't wear it in the backseat - not only will you die, but you'll break the neck of the person in front of you. Not wearing it in front is stupid, not wearing it in the back is double-stupid! |

ahem...
currently in assachusetts they can't pull you over for not wearing it (they just reversed this bill 2 months ago by the way)
you can get a ticket if they pull you over for something else and see you don't have it on |

one time my bro got pulled over for speeding or something.
as the cop was walking up to his car, before he got there, my bro undoes his seatbelt so he can get his wallet/license out.
the cop then noticed he didnt have his seatbelt on, and acknowledged it. my bro quickly explained that he took it off to get his wallet out.
the cop didnt care. wrote him a ticket for both speeding and not wearing a seatbelt. my bro cant prove that he WAS wearing a seatbelt.
let this be a lesson to those of you... |

In France you are supposed to wear it front and back but it's not really enforced but if you get stopped or you're in an accident you're in serious trouble.
Otherwise me I always wear it fron and back
And I ALWAYS put my headlights on! Day or night. |

I'm a seatbelt nerd. I never go without wearing it, and I hate not being able to wear one.
When people get in my car and they don't wear a seatbelt, it makes me nervous. I usually suggest to them that they should wear it but, I don't insist. When I get into someone elses car and can't find a seatbelt, I get VERY nervous. Then I hurry up and fashion a makeshift seatbelt out of my underwear and use that. Luckily, by doing that it's the last time I have to ride in that persons car. ;) |
